Topic.comis thrilled to be launching the first of a monthly series of events called "Topic Talks. Aimed at bringing together a broad set of voices & also influential members of the community to have discussions around a different theme every month, this first January will feature the theme of Near Future.Near Future will explore stories & people that provide insight & vision into what might be just around the bend. Technology will play a starring role, but not at the expense of the humans who are imagining it. The night will involve interesting experiential stations, talks & discussions, & drinks & appetizers.

Ryan Mandelbaum is a science writer at Gizmodo, covering the latest advances in physics, astronomy, biology & food.
Elmo Keep is an Australian writer & journalist reporting in America & currently based in San Miguel, Mexico. She has worked with with, Topic, The Smithsonian, Vice, The Verge, The International New York Times, The Best Australian Science Writing & many others.
Robyn Shapiro is the Co-Founder of Seek, a new line of snack foods featuring the protein-rich cricket. Shapiro also serves as Deputy Director for the Lowline. Shapiro was formerly an urban farmer & led youth workshops at Eagle Street Rooftop Farm, the City's first rooftop farm in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
Marin Cogan is an award-winning journalist based in Washington DC. She has been a Contributing Editor for New York Magazine & a writer for ESPN The Magazine, GQ, National Journal, POLITICO & The New Republic. She has written for The New York Times, The Washington Post, Esquire, & many other publications. She is co-director of the Princeton Summer Journalism Program.
Liana Finck studied fine art & graphic design at Cooper Union College. A former Fulbright fellow & recipient of a Six Points Fellowship for Emerging Jewish Artists, her work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Forward & Tablet, among many others.
Dr. Catharine Conley is the NASA Planetary Protection Officer. Dr. Conley received her Ph.D. in Plant Biology from Cornell University in 1994, & obtained a postdoctoral fellow position at The Scripps Research Institute studying proteins involved in muscle contraction.
