NYC Media Lab is recruiting for a prototyping project with The Associated Pressto explore the visualization of health & science news in augmented reality.
Application Deadline: Friday, November 9th
Awarding: $20,000 for 1 team of university researchers
New mobile augmented reality software platforms such as ARKit & ARCore present the opportunity to rapidly prototype new applications, test user experience design, & explore the efficacy of this new medium for informing & engaging users.
NYC Media Lab & the Associated Press (AP) propose to explore the visualization of health & science news in augmented reality by creating & testing prototypes with users, & publishing the results. Mobile augmented reality visualizations will be compared against traditional two-dimensional interactive data visualizations.
Working with journalists & digital media experts at the Associated Press, the selected team of graduate student AR developers & designers will develop an app to engage users on topics such as space & the cosmos, sea levels rising in your backyard, color blindness/gene therapy & infectious diseases.
Over the course of approximately 12 weeks, this university-industry team will develop & test prototypes & publish the findings of user experience testing. Through iterative design & feedback, the Associated Press will provide technical, design & journalistic mentorship to the university participants.
This information session is open to all interested & eligible applicants.
