Join us in conversation with Brenda Berkman: a pioneering firefighter, a 9/11 First Responder, a White House Fellow, Artist, the Founder of United Women Firefighters & a Champion of Women's Rights.
Join us & the incredible pioneer, Captain Brenda Berkman, at this very special Courageous Conversations event.
Captain Berkman began her career in the fire service after initiating & winning the federal sex discrimination lawsuit against the City of New York that paved the way for women to serve in FDNY. She then served as a firefighter for 25 years stationed in Manhattan & Brooklyn & was a first responder on 9/11. She retired as a Captain.
In 1996-97, Capt. Berkman served as a White House Fellow, the first professional firefighter to be awarded this prestigious leadership development fellowship in the history of the program. She has led both local & national women firefighters' organizations.
Since retirement, she has pursued her passion for art through printmaking, & volunteers as a walking tour guide at the 9-11 Memorial in New York City to honor her friends & colleagues who were lost on 9-11, & to help educate visitors.
