EVENT DETAILS |
Join us on May 30th for our second event of 2018 -
"Proving the Market for Deep Energy Retrofits"
New York State & New York City have some of the nation's most ambitious GHG reduction targets, to reduce GHG emissions 80 percent by 2050. In New York City, buildings continue to be the largest driver of citywide GHG emissions, accounting for 67 percent. Most of the buildings that will exist in 2050 already exist today. The goal, & the need, is to develop replicable, scalable solutions that have the potential to transform NYC's building stock by dramatically improving energy performance.
Deep energy retrofits holistically address the heating system, cooling system, & the building envelope. These whole-building strategies can achieve upwards of 40-60% reduction in energy use from a typical building & site energy use intensity (EUI) of 40-60 kbtu/square feet. Upgrades to the heating system are critical to deep energy retrofits, which can include converting to a high efficiency electric system for heating & cooling or optimizing the existing heating distribution system & implementing robust operations & maintenance plans. Building envelope improvements, with high performance materials, are also needed to minimize space heating & cooling requirements.
NYC & NYS have developed innovative programs to accelerate deep energy efficiency retrofits & the technologies are available to get us there.Hear from policymakers, manufacturers, & industry experts at the next Clean Energy Connections event.
