Speaker: Chris Simpson

Speaker Bio: Chris Simpson is a Senior Software Engineer at Vimeo working on Search & Discovery products. He is an early adopter & longtime user of Elasticsearch, having first spoken at The London Elasticsearch Meetup in 2012 about his experiences using ES to power search over hundreds of millions of documents in a production environment. More recently, Chris has spoken at the ElasticON Tour NYC conference, & numerous other open-source search events. He is interested the emerging discipline of "Relevance Engineering" & how data-science, machine learning, & Information Retrieval experts are working together to fulfill the technical & business needs of their companies.

Talk Description: Chris will be discussing the use of Elasticsearch at Vimeo including the specific challenges & scaling requirements we have. He will explain an overview of the growing number of Elasticsearch-backed services powering Vimeo today, & the features of Elasticsearch they use to index Vimeo's vast dataset & reliably serve search requests. Chris will finish with a brief look towards the exciting future of search!
