Inspiring the next wave of women of color looking to make their career transition into tech, this event will highlight opportunities for black women facing barriers to entry in product.

These innovative industry leaders will share their stories about how they got to where they are today, as well as insights on how black women can usher in diverse, inclusive, & equitable perspectives in careers in product.

About the Instructor

Carla Durandisse
Founder, Black Women Getting Into Tech

Carla Durandisse started her career in marketing & advertising sales over 15 years ago before college. After interning at Miami International Airport's marketing department at age 16, she spent the next 10 years executing advertising, creative marketing, & brand strategy campaigns with some of the most recognized media outlets & digital platforms in the country before moving into program expansion at a local DC nonprofit. In 2020, she founded Black Women Getting Into Tech, an online platform for Black women with little to no experience in the tech space looking to break into the industry. Membership has reached over 10,000 members actively looking to make the career pivot into tech.

Lily Andemariam
Founder, Product South

Lily Andemariam is a Sr. Product Manager turned Founder of Product South, a company focused on getting more diverse talent into the tech space through education & connection. She started her career as a people manager at Macy's through their Executive Development Program. Since then, she has held multiple positions in Sales, Customer Experience, CRM, Mobile & Innovation Product Management at Macy's, Uniqlo & Delta Airlines. She has spent the last ~5yrs as a Product Manager in San Francisco, CA & Atlanta, GA. Outside of work, she enjoys working out, eating & exploring the world.

Rachel Brooks
Product Management Lead, Instagram's Equity Team
Rachel Brooks is the Product Management Lead for Instagram's Equity Team, leading the strategic direction & execution of how the platform will build long term solutions by centering marginalized communities. The goal of this team is not only to provide better online experiences based on the feedback received, but look for ways to close societal & systemic gaps as & when they show up on the platform.

Prior to Instagram, Rachel was the Head of Product at Savage X Fenty. She also has a deep interest in advancing the craft of software design & development across the industry, with equity in mind.

Black Women Getting Into Tech is an online community focused on breaking barriers to entry into tech & increasing representation in the workforce for black women.
