The Rise of Initial Coin Offerings:Opportunities & Risks
Over the past few years, the initial coin offering (ICO) has been on the rise. This relatively new method of early stage financing in which digital tokens or coins are issued instead of stock in a company has garnered significant scrutiny among regulators as the tokens or coins & the offering of such digital assets could be securities or commodities & traditional regualtions & investor protection mechamisms are not routinely observed by early adopters. There is also significant uncertainty around taxation of funds raised by ICOs & whether D&O & other insurance policies will provide coverage for claims relating to an ICO.
The panel will discuss the current regulatory landscape around ICOs, the potential opportunities & risks involved in pursuing such an offering & provide practical insights from the market in this emerging area of innovation.
