Caroline Sinders is an acclaimed Machine Learning artist & researcher, exploring the intersections of technology's impact in society, interface design, artificial intelligence, abuse, & politics in digital, conversational spaces.
This event will explore some of these themes in Caroline's artworks, followed by discussion of the role of AI & art in society.
TRK - Technically Responsible Knowledge
A provocation which calculates the cost of gig economy labelling work, exposing the aspects of data work which are often glossed over & confronting the user with the true costs of such work. In Caroline's words, "a tool & advocacy initiative spotlighting unjust labor in the machine learning pipeline which includes an open source data labeling & training tool & a wage calculator, & is a part of the Feminist Data Set project"

This film looks at the complexities of how machines construct & confuse human emotions, the power dynamics which shape emotion recognition algorithms, & our agency in interacting with these technologies.
