This month, we'll share lessons learned with TypeScript (a strongly typed superset of JavaScript), & why your team may want to adopt it. Continuing with our developer journey series, Daniel Gillen will share his. And finally, we'll quickly walk through Tensorflow.js, & how you can use it in machine learning projects. And sprinkled in these talks will be mentions of Docker, Ansible, & a machine learning primer.

MEETUP AGENDA

6:00pm - Welcome / Networking
6:30pm - A Developer Journey Daniel Gillen

Daniel Gillen is a full-stack developer based in New York City with a background in music performance & music education. He has an affinity for problem solving, communication & detail oriented work. Find him at @dgillen27 (Github) or https://linkedin.com/in/danielgillen (LinkedIn).

6:50pm - Getting Started with Tensorflow.js Alim S. Gafar
You know Tensorflow is the popular end-to-end open source Machine Learning platform from Google written natively in C++, Python & CUDA. But do you know that you don't need to download it all or write Python code to use it? This month we'll look at how Tensorflow.js brings powerful Machine Learning tools to JavaScript developers.

Alim S. Gafar is a technology evangelist specializing in voice, blockchain, AI, mobile, & JavaScript. A co-organizer of the ApolloMeteorNYC, Data Skeptics, & Data Science Panel meetups, he consults at DIRA Market Dynamics, a market discovery & development firm. You can reach him at @alimgafar on Twitter.

7:20pm - Reimplementing Meteor in TypeScript, Module by Module Ben Newman

If you had a time machine, would you change how you write code? Ben would! In this presentation, Ben describes how TypeScript's benefits outweigh its limitations as a tool for creating clearer, more maintainable code for the Meteor OSS. (This may be live, this may be Memorex.)

Ben Newman is the Tech Lead for Meteor at MDG & one-time JavaScript Whisperer. You can reach him at @benjamn on Twitter or @benjamn on Github.

8:00 - Dipping Your Toes in Typescript Justin Krup

Last month, Justin wrote an article on the Priceline blog explaining how to get started using Typescript in a mature codebase in a way that doesnt involve halting business progress (http://bit.ly/2YWZOUF). In this talk, he'll discuss the benefits of moving your JavaScript codebase to Typescript & Priceline's firsthand experience with the adoption.

Justin Krup is an Engineering Manager At Priceline, he is also the author & maintainer of Meteor-Now. Find him on GitHub at @jkrup
