W. Nicholas Haining, B.M., B.Ch. is a physician-scientist & Vice-President, Discovery Oncology at Merck & Co. Dr. Haining received his undergraduate & medical degree from Oxford University, UK, & completed his medical training in Pediatrics at Children's Hospital, Boston, & subsequently in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. As an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School & an Associate Member of the Broad Institute of Harvard & MIT, Dr. Haining, together with his lab, defined some of the key transcriptional & epigenetic regulators of T cell exhaustion & used in vivo genetic screens to identify immune vulnerabilities of cancer cells in mouse models. At Merck, he leads a multi-disciplinary organization focused on using innovative approaches to identify new therapeutic strategies for cancer & immunological disease.
