How do you navigate difficult conversations as a Product Manager? Have you ever needed to deliver hard feedback, handle tough criticism for yourself, address conflict, or move forward despite disagreement from team members?While often labeled as soft skills, building & leveraging relationships is critical to not only your career success but also your team's impact. Being a great product manager means empowering the people around you to do their best work, whether as an individual contributor or a manager. Navigating these conversations effectively & with confidence is a hard skill, but not impossible to conquer.

At this event, we discuss strategies for:

Proactively creating an environment of psychological safety for your team


Delivering & receiving criticism & feedback


Embracing the framework of strong opinions, weakly held


After lightning talks from Product Leaders, we will break into small groups to practice these strategies, & then come back together to share out key learnings from each group.This talk & workshop is for Product Managers & Product Leaders. You will walk away with a set of tactics to help with your next difficult conversation. Light food & refreshments, including wine & beer will be provided.

Lightning Talks by



Mindy is a Group Product Manager at Dropbox. Her team owns products like Dropbox previews, comments, & Showcase, which empower professionals to do their most creative work. In addition to building products, Mindy is passionate about the human side of technology: enabling others to find confidence, leveraging feedback for personal growth, & building trusting relationships.

In her five years at Dropbox, Mindy has led efforts on subscription growth, file sharing & collaboration, & a redesign of the Dropbox web experience. Previously she worked in Product Marketing at Microsoft & Google & studied Marketing & Operations at the University of Pennsylvania.

Outside of work, Mindy hangs out with her Goldendoodle named Dug & enjoys Lindy Hop & live jazz.




Melinda Chao, Director of Product at Glossier

With Glossier's vision to be the best platform in the world for beauty consumers to visit, learn, share, & shop, Melinda & her team own products to drive peer-to-peer growth of their member community, as well as the scaling & innovation of the company's retail & fulfillment services.

Previously, Melinda led Growth & Platform teams at Rent the Runway & was responsible for Seller AutoBilling & Buyer Checkout at Etsy. She began her career in product management at American Express working on online applications tailored to small businesses & merchant recommender tools.

Beyond the office, Melinda can often be found Instagramming her latest dessert conquests, skiing, or traveling to & from Seattle.
