As the result of a three year partnership with the Manhattan Borough President's Office, BetaNYC has designed tools & customized trainings specifically intended to help Community Boards access, analyze, map & use data to inform decision-making. This workshop will introduce an easy-to-use BoardStat tool to query NYC 311 - service requests & explore trends in health, safety & quality of life concerns. Additional key datasets/ tools will also be reviewed. Come ready to learn & get right into datasets & graphs.
Bring a laptop & be prepared to learn how to easily make 311 part of your committee!
BoardStat is designed for community boards by community boards. Not only does BoardStat empower a community board staff & its members to gain timely insights, it is furthering the Manhattan Borough President's long-standing goal of making government transparent & responsive, reactive, & moving beyond open data access to meaningful use.
This training & BoardStat are open to the general public. Join us to learn how NYC's open data can make you a better informed neighbor.
Things to bring: a laptop, power supply, & be prepared to participate. Note, most of the websites won't work on tablets or phones with iOS or Android operating systems. This means, iPads & Android tablets won't work as well. We recommend a laptop with Windows, Mac OS, Chromebooks, or Unix running a modern browser like Firefox, Internet Explorer, Chrome, or Safari.
