Collecting web performance data in the field (also known as real user measurement or RUM) has traditionally been a first-party experience; you add some tracking code to your website & your monitoring service will show you insightful data about how users experience your website. The key is that you're only seeing data for users on your own website. But what would you do if you could see the real user performance data for your closest competitor? Or other websites in your industry? How about 3 million websites?

In this talk we'll explore the newly released Chrome User Experience Report (CrUX) to see how you can utilize terabytes of data to understand how users actually experience the web. We'll discuss how this tool fits into the broader webperf tooling landscape, how to extract meaningful insights, & how to visualize results to impress your boss. The goal is for you to come away with the skills to set realistic performance expectations, better understand market demographics, & track your progress relative to everyone else.

Rick Viscomi (https://twitter.com/rick_viscomi), Developer Programs Engineer at Google (http://www.google.com) focusing on web transparency. He maintains the HTTP Archive, a community-owned tool that tracks how the web is built, & the Chrome User Experience Report, a dataset of real user performance data from millions of sites. He is also the co-author of Using WebPageTest & a former web performance engineer at YouTube.
