THE PITCHES:

Five amazing, DIY game projects will be selected by the Made in NY Media Center by IFP staff to present a five minute-long pitch to a panel of industry judges, & to our live audience.

Anya Combs is the Senior Games Outreach person at Kickstarter. She has been in the digital games space for over a decade, overseeing multiple mobile & online titles launched for Nickelodeon & AddictingGames, & has worked with countless game creators launching successful projects on Kickstarter. She is excited to continue supporting game devs as they bring their creative projects to life. Anya has also played the saxophone for 20+ years & plays in too many bands in NYC. She doesn't sleep much.

Steph Clark is a videogames artist, curator, & educator living in New York, & a co-founder of Babycastles Gallery, a 501c3 Non-Profit dedicated to showcasing contemporary independent videogames & other media by marginalized creators. Babycastles is an internationally active volunteer run arts organization based in Manhattan, & plays host to a wide array of events, workshops, & exhibitions.

Steph's personal work is usually in the realm of climate fiction, absurdist futures, death positivity, & ambient play. They are currently an instructor of game design & development at NYU Tisch & NYU Tandon.

Jess Haskins is a game designer & writer specializing in worldbuilding, narrative design, & storytelling for games & interactive experiences. She holds an MFA in Design & Technology from Parsons School of Design & has game development experience across diverse genres & platforms, encompassing design, writing, & management roles. Jess is also the owner of Paperback Studios, chair of the IGDA NYC chapter & organizer of NYC Indie Games, a social & networking group for indie devs. She curates the NYC Game Dev community calendar & publishes the IGDA NYC monthly newsletter.

MORE JURY TBA.

THE PRIZES:

Audience Choice Award includes 6 tickets (one game, valued at $261) & a behind the scenes tour at Beat the Bomb.
CRITERIA AND REQUIREMENTS:

Projects will be selected to pitch, & evaluated for prizes, based on:

Innovative & interesting concept & approach
Clearly defined objective(s) & rules, understood in brief & in detail
Creative approach to artwork, production values, etc.
Fun with sense of theme/purpose, i.e. Why should anyone play this game?
We welcome game projects of all kinds: we're open to game apps, tabletop games, experiential games, video games or concepts that are story-driven, abstract, strategy-based, games of chance, individual player, multi-player There are no restrictions on specific content or form, as long as it's engaging, clear to understand, & (of course!) has a strong element of fun.

Ideally, projects should be in development & close to complete, but not yet finished. Submissions must send supporting materials to help selection committee (and, if selected, our jury & audience) visualize your projects & understand the rules/mechanics of the game in the most direct terms possible. We can accept concept artwork, pitch decks, visual treatments, & even demos if accessible online. We CANNOT accept in-person deliveries of materials.

Any questions about submission materials may be directed to the Media Center Programming Team at programming@nymediacenter.com.

While both our selection committee & our jury will keep an eye out for noteworthy, clean production values & artwork (where applicable), submissions need not be completely polished at this stage. Ultimately, fun content, creativity, & clearly defined mechanics are the top criteria.

If selected, projects will be asked to prepare a short, visual pitch deck for the Pitch Night. Pitch decks may include audio samples & video clips/trailer. All pitches must be five minutes in length.
