As Virgin Hyperloop (VH) continues our journey to build the worlds first hyperloop & act as a disruptive force in the transportation industry, we are in need of an experienced Strategic sourcing Manager for our growing organization.

The Strategic Sourcing Managers role is to identify, evaluate, approve, integrate & manage strategic & preferred suppliers for Virgin Hyperloop.


  • Act as a primary strategic sourcing expert for the company
  • Own the costed bill of materials for purchased components & co-lead executive cost reviews
  • Own & drive the make/buy process for their respective value stream
  • Develop both a short & long-term product specific sourcing strategy & drive execution, coordinating cross functionally to ensure project success
  • Investigate, evaluate, & recommend new and/or alternate sources of supply as necessary to support new product development, cost reduction requirements, and/or to improve supplier performance
  • Create, review, and/or approve purchase orders up to authorized limits for raw materials, parts, subassemblies, finished goods, equipment, tooling, supplies, and/or services from suppliers in support of engineering customer requirements
  • Interpret technical requirements & estimate cost, lead times, manufacturing techniques, & identify the best value supplier
  • Skillfully balance the price, delivery, quality, service, & value tradeoffs & rationalize the supply base
  • Adhere to all supply chain policies, procedures, guidelines & instructions including those regarding the procurement of materials, intellectual property, & export compliance
  • Negotiate short & long-term agreements for raw materials, parts, subassemblies, finished goods, equipment, tooling, supplies, and/or services from suppliers
  • Create or review statements of work, prepare bidders lists, & manage the quote process
  • Negotiate commercial aspects of service & product contracts & coordinate contract execution with VH legal team
  • Purchase in both MRP & project/purchase requisition systems including creating a Plan for Every Part if needed
  • Negotiate internally & externally at high levels or with persons of influence frequently
  • Develop, monitor, & report on risk mitigation strategies
  • Develop & track reporting against objectives & results


  • Be a technical expert & will have a strong associated supplier network
  • Work well under pressure with exceptionally tight deadlines
  • Have a blend of both technical & business experience with a strong background in manufacturing and/or design
  • Possess excellent judgement & the ability to make & execute on decisions for the holistic betterment of the company with little oversight

  • Have exceptional communication skills, both written & verbal, & experience in presenting complex ideas to executive level audiences
  • Have strong relationship building skills, & the ability to interact & work effectively with all levels of personnel & influence key stakeholders in order to get things done & set proper expectations
  • Be able to take ownership & assignments of projects from beginning to end & capable of self-checking work produced for completeness & accuracy
  • Basic understanding of how to read blueprints/drawings, interpret specifications & review statements of work for commercial items
  • General understanding of the Uniform Commercial Code, U.S. Government FAR, DFARS & ITAR requirements.
  • General understanding of enterprise quality system functionality (e.g., ISO 9000, AS9100, TS16949, etc.).
  • General understanding of ERP systems & MRP logic
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret technical documents & estimate costs, estimate lead times, & identify the best value supplier
  • Proven experience in supporting critical new product introduction activities for highly technical products
  • Demonstrated project management skill
  • Proven experience with drafting, executing & actively managing MSA & MPA agreements
  • Proven experience leading suppliers & a team through R&D (Research & Development) into a production stage of a companys life cycle


  • Certifications preferred: A.P.P., C.P.M., CPSM, CSCP, CPIM.
  • Previous experience in a start-up or high growth environment
  • Previous experience sourcing contract manufacturers
  • Exceptional technical & cost knowledge of power electronics, & contract manufacturing
  • Experience with financial control systems or cost accounting structures
