About the Role:  

The Flight Software Team is responsible for creating & maintaining the guidance & control software for our fleet of Superdove, Skysat, & future satellites. As a member of the FSW team, you will be working to develop & improve the software that runs our fleet of observation satellites. As a Flight Software Engineer, you will This will involve working with a broad variety of disciplines, including our top-notch payload, AI, electrical design & mission control teams!

Impact Youll Own:

  • Triage on-orbit anomaly escalations.
  • Develop code changes to address defects in RTOS & Linux-based application code
  • Design & implement new subsystems & replacements for existing subsystems across multiple generations of Planets satellites
  • Implement features in existing codebases to support improved fleet performance & robustness
  • Collaborate closely with senior FSW engineers to learn existing systems & codebases, understand design of systems currently in implementation phase

What You Bring:

  • Bachelors degree in CS, CE, EE, or a related field; OR equivalent work experience / self-directed study
  • Strong communication skills, including ability to explain technical concepts to a variety of stakeholders including engineers, satellite operators, & engineering project managers
  • 1-5 years of programming experience (professional, academic, F/OSS community, or self-directed) in at least one of the following language & environments: C/C++ on Linux, Python on Linux/MacOS/Windows, C/C++ for embedded systems (RTOS or bare-metal), Go/Rust/C#/Java on Linux/MacOS/Windows
  • Experience using VCS such as Git, SVN, Mercurial

What Makes You Stand Out:

  • Experience in multiple languages & environments
  • Linux/Unix systems programming experience such as memory-mapped files, network protocol development, process memory management, etc
  • Server administration experience
  • Knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker/lxc
  • Experience with RTOS / bare metal microprocessor development on platforms like STM32
  • Experience managing work & defect tracking using ticket systems such as Jira, Github/Gitlab Issues, or similar systems

Compensation (only applicable for Colorado applicants):

The base pay range targeted for this position in Colorado is: $93,600 - $156,600. This role is eligible for equity.

The actual offer, including the compensation package, is determined based on multiple factors, including experience, location, & other business considerations.
