In order to focus on places where Mozilla can impact the next era of our work, we are increasingly working on the topic of trustworthy AI. For us, this means especially two things: human agency is a core part of how AI is built & integrated, & corporate accountability is real & enforced.


The Global Lead, AI Policy + Government Relations advances Mozillas policy goals in line with our organizations global Trustworthy AI strategy. Currently, our global policy work is concentrated in the US & EU, with plans to expand to India, Brazil, & Kenya.

The Lead will develop & implement effective strategies for bringing Mozillas AI policy research & recommendations to the attention of global policymakers, particularly in these key countries/regions. The Lead will work closely with Mozilla Foundation executives, program staff & the Mozilla Corporations Global Policy team.

The Lead reports to the Mozilla Foundations Vice President, Advocacy. Strong preference for candidates based in North America with proximity to Washington, D.C. We have a remote organizational culture & benefits.


The core responsibilities of this position, include the following:

  • Designing & implementing strategies to bring Mozillas work on Trustworthy AI to the attention of global policymakers, including relevant administration & agency officials.
  • Meeting ambitious policy-related goals, utilising various organizational resources & collaborations.
  • Arranging meetings, briefings & other ongoing engagement with influential collaborators to influence the global Trustworthy AI policy agenda.
  • Representing Mozilla with influential external partners, including government officials, funders & the media.
  • Formulating and/or evaluating Trustworthy AI public policies or proposals, in collaboration with Mozilla leadership.
  • Maintaining a detailed knowledge of global issues related to Trustworthy AI.
  • Tracking & analyzing legislation, regulations, other policy proposals, & hearings, announcements, & other government actions relevant to Mozillas Trustworthy AI policies, & sharing summary information with program teams on a timely basis.
  • Informing & advising philanthropic & advocacy staff on relevant global policy developments.
  • Working with program & communications staff to translate complex information into accessible written materials for distribution to policymakers & other collaborators.
  • Reviewing & updating materials & program plans relevant to public policy debates.
  • Advising on philanthropic investments & programs with Mozillas policy goals & emerging opportunities in mind.
  • Developing & maintaining strong working relationships with key collaborators including government officials, civil society organizations, corporate allies, & researchers to advance Mozillas Trustworthy AI agenda.
  • Developing & participating in relevant coalitions & strategic partnerships in globally relevant regions.
  • Fully aligning with, & serving as a liaison between program staff & Mozillas legal team ensure full compliance with relevant lobbying disclosure & reporting rules.
  • Ensuring Mozillas public policies advance diversity, equity, inclusion & justice, including alignment with the Mozilla Manifesto.


  • 5+ years of proven experience in tech policy, preferably with AI-issue & global expertise.
  • Experience conceiving, planning & implementing effective policy-related initiatives.
  • Experience communicating with & presenting to diverse audiences including policymakers, executives, civil society leadership, or equivalent.
  • Proven track record of supporting & influencing colleagues across a wide range of internal teams & coalitions.
  • Strong writing & editing skills on materials targeted to policymaker & partner audiences.
  • Experience in & outside the US is preferred.
  • Work experience in a consumer tech company and/or related civil society organization, preferred.
  • Consistent track record of working collaboratively with partners across levels, geographies, backgrounds & cultures to meet ambitions goals
  • Experience building a diverse staff & fostering an equitable, inclusive workplace by drawing upon diverse perspectives.

Salary & Benefits Information:

The Mozilla Foundation is dedicated to fair & equitable compensation for our staff. We aim to pay a competitive & market-based salary that takes into consideration the responsibilities & requirements of the role. We aim to offer at the midpoint of our salary ranges for the purposes of increasing inclusivity & fairness of our offer process & ensuring internal equity. We do not ask for, or take into account, salary histories in our offer process.

The base salary ranges, along with mid-point, for this role in each of the key countries in which we employ staff is listed below. We target the 75th percentile of market pay as a salary band midpoint for all levels, with 10% either side of the midpoint to create a salary range.

  • Germany: 87,855 - 107,378 (mid-point: 97,616)
  • UK: 54,894 - 67,093 (mid-point: 60,994)
  • Canada: $99,518 - $121,633 (mid-point: $110,575)
  • US: $101,104 - $123,572 (mid-point: $112,338)

Depending on the successful candidates location, we may also add in a geographic differential to this base salary that accounts for local job market weighting. This differential is applied to the above ranges depending on the successful candidates location. Below are some of the common cities in which we hire staff along with representative examples of salary ranges, along with mid-point, with the geographical differential applied:

  • Inner London: 59,834 - 73,131 (mid-point: 66,483)
  • Toronto: $107,379 - $131,241 (mid-point: $119,310)
  • New York: $112,023 - $136,917 (mid-point: $124,470)
