Build the platform that powers global trade

The opportunity:

Flexport is building the first modern logistics platform to make global trade easier for everyone. We are solving complex problems on a global scale & disrupting a multi-trillion dollar industry that has remained stubbornly unchanged.

We're looking for a Staff Technical Program Manager to develop technology that is reshaping the entire logistics & supply chain industries. Youll work alongside other self-starters interested in solving complex real-world problems & making global commerce more efficient. Youll have the opportunity to reshape an industry by creating the new Operating System for Global Trade.
 
The Ocean Technology team is a cross-functional, full-stack team that builds software to power Flexports core product, ocean freight. Our mission is to match our clients' cargo to the best ship available, maximizing on-time delivery at the best rates. Our work includes close collaboration with business leaders & end users to automate & optimize this process. 

You will:

  • Partner with global engineering, product, & business stakeholders to orchestrate the delivery of the companys most critical initiatives
  • Guide & direct the work of other TPMs on the initiatives you manage
  • Mentor other TPMs & help to improve the practices of the TPM organization, leveraging your deep expertise in technology execution
  • Drive cross-functional planning & development, ensuring that program tasks are completed on time & managing resource, scope, & quality constraints
  • Clarify ambiguities in product requirements & drive the development of technical requirements
  • Identify & manage cross-team technology dependencies & align teams on roadmaps to ensure timely delivery of initiatives
  • Provide transparency & communication to key stakeholders about program status, risks, & changes in plans
  • Proactively identify risks & blockers, drive mitigation strategy for the product & engineering teams, & manage stakeholder expectations
  • Understand the technical architecture of the solution, analyze data to identify root causes of problems, & partner closely with engineers to resolve technical impediments
  • Ensure that software development & continuous integration/continuous delivery guidelines (code Reviews, unit tests, code coverage), & any other compliance requirements, are followed
  • Facilitate discussions, decision making, & conflict resolution
  • Determine people, process, & technical solutions to address issues
  • Coach/mentor new teams on Scrum processes & establish processes & tools for agile execution

You should have:

  • 8+ years of technical program management experience, including management of large-scale programs
  • Strong understanding of software product development & software architecture concepts
  • Strength in agile/Scrum processes, project/program planning, organization, & time management
  • A data- & metrics-driven mindset
  • Ability to effectively manage ambiguity & competing priorities to help teams prioritize & focus
  • Excellent communication & presentation skills for engineering & product teams, as well as for business & executive teams
  • Self-motivation & ability to work independently
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering or a related discipline
  • A "compliance first" attitude to keep our regulators happy & enthusiastic about Flexport since we operate in a heavily regulated industry

Bonus points if you have:

  • Experience working in supply chains, global logistics, or the measurement & optimization of software systems & development processes.
  • Experience working with Jira & Confluence
  • Experience with the planning functions of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
