The Verge is seeking a sharp, thoughtful copy editor to join our ambitious team & uphold our high editorial standards. As we launch subscription products such as our paid newsletters, this work will be even more vital. This role requires a language expert on the breadth of topics The Verge covers who feels a deep responsibility to get things right. The right person will be a strong collaborator with every team at The Verge & have the ability to context-shift between a wide variety of topics.

As a community of journalists & storytellers, business professionals, creators & technologists, we believe it is a moral & business imperative to amplify voices: to cultivate diversity, equity, & inclusion throughout our organization & media. This applies to our candidates, our teams, our storytelling, our creative work, & our platforms, products, & partnerships.

  • Copy edit text on our website, channels, podcasts, & videos from a large team of reporters, producers, & freelancers. This includes editing our weekly paid newsletters, Command Line & Notepad.
  • Serve as a stakeholder in our ambitious special projects, working closely with The Verges managing editor & deputy editors on production.
  • Co-write The Verges internal newsletter, ensuring language guidelines & standards are clearly communicated & enforced across our wide team of writers & editors.
  • Copy edit & fact-check a variety of off-platform copy, including brand marketing, events promotion, & print projects.
  • Work closely with editorial leadership to develop, QA, & uphold standards across written, visual, & audio content.

WHO YOU ARE

Preferred qualifications:

  • Minimum three years experience in copy editing, preferably for a digital-first news organization
  • A commitment to the highest editorial standards of accuracy, clarity, & inclusivity

If you think you have what it takes, but don't meet every single point in our job posting, please apply with a cover letter to let us know how you believe you can bring your unique skills to the Vox Media team or get in touch!
