As Director, Paid Marketing at Codecademy you will play a vital role in spreading the Codecademy mission, helping us reach & educate people all over the world. In this role you will scale membership growth & drive subscription revenue while managing toward profitable growth.Reporting to the VP of Marketing, you will:


  • Manage acquisition & retention efforts across all Paid Channels, inclusive of strategy, execution & testing
  • Employ rapid testing to continuously improve performance through optimization, vetting new hypotheses & iterating channel best practices to drive results
  • Manage performance marketing agency to align on strategy, budgets, goals, & testing plans, acting as the day to day lead for the agency
  • Develop a point of view & plan that addresses the in-housing vs. outsourcing (to agency) of paid channel activities
  • Leverage Marketing tools such as Google, Facebook, Segment, Looker & others to deliver effective scale
  • Devise innovative ways to drive subscriptions & other priority results
  • Expand into new digital channels, platforms, audiences & content via test & learn approach
  • Establish CAC targets, as well as manage traffic, conversion & conversion value for our subscription products
  • Employ a global focus, expanding scale through regional approaches
  • Work effectively with Engineering, Product & Finance teams to execute paid channel priorities
  • Build upon current channel analytics to track & report performance, including budget tracking & forecasting across Paid Channels
  • Effectively communicate results & analysis to relevant stakeholders


  • 6+ years of experience in Paid Channels, experience across Paid Search, Paid Social, Display & Affiliate is ideal; podcasing, video & other media is a plus
  • Subject matter expertise in leading always on performance marketing is essential
  • Deep experience with Marketing tools in the areas of platform management (i.e. Adwords, Facebook, Rakuten) & analytics (i.e. GA 360, Looker)
  • A strong bias for action & an outcome based approach
  • Experience conducting experiments, designing tests & ensuring effective analytics
  • Track record of successfully implementing test results to drive scale
  • Ability to work closely with other areas of expertise, including engineering, product, finance & other teams within marketing
  • Ability to creatively distribute & communicate the customer value proposition, across myriad target audiences
  • Self-starter who is comfortable independently navigating the organization & agency relationships
  • This role involves leadership, management, & execution - a great fit represents appreciating & understanding how to blend them for maximum impact


  • Experience working with international expansion
  • Experience in working with Agile is a plus
  • Subscription marketing experience & managing toward customer acquisition
  • Interest in coding or passion for empowering others through coding education is a plus
  • B2C and B2B marketing experience
