THE POSITION:

We need a communications executive who can help lead our considerable consumer & partnership publicity & communications engine.  We want a confident media executive who can elevate FanDuel, Americas #1 Sportsbook into broader sports trend & entertainment stories, as well as responding to topical news coverage of the industry on a daily basis.  This person will build a plan that engages with sports & lifestyle media around the country, so that FanDuel is positioned & spoken about as a leading sports entertainment company. The Director, Communications will oversee a team & agencies that work closely with FanDuels Brand Marketing, Commercial, Risk & Trading, Retail & Responsible Gaming teams to develop publicity & communications narratives that position the company as the next great sports brand.

THE GAME PLAN:
Everyone on our team has a part to play

  • Position FanDuel at the intersection of sports, entertainment & pop culture by extracting important moments where the brand can engage in the consumer zeitgeist
  • Work marketing & commercial functions to extract the best news stories for the companys sportsbook, casino, fantasy, skill & racing platforms
  • Help to build long-term media relations & publicity strategies that keep FanDuel as the un-avowed industry leader as the most responsible wagering platform
  • Manage FanDuels compliment of PR & talent agencies to execute activations & consumer events that generate national news coverage to capitalize on the momentum s/he has created
  • Comfortable working with celebrity talent & their representation to book events, tours, commercial shoots & fan events that drive the FanDuel brand success
  • Work hand in hand with our retail operations unit to promote new brick & mortar sportsbook openings in partnership with casino operators & market access partners across North America
  • Partner with our go-to-market team to develop & execute press tours when new states & regions open for sports betting or casino
  • Interact with our sports league (NFL, NHL, NBA, PGA TOUR, WNBA, WTA) & team partners (Phoenix Suns, Washington Commanders, D.C. United, Philadelphia Eagles etc.) to win local market press opportunities & larger trend stories
  • Aid the casino division with finding the proper narratives around mobile iGaming that align to our safer gambling protocols
  • Participate with the continuing evolution of our safer gambling initiatives including serving as part of the companys RG steering committee
  • Oversee a team of junior communications professionals focused on operational & administrative excellence in support of FanDuels leadership team
  • Play large role working with Vice President, Communications, CEO, President & Chief Commercial Officer & EVP, Marketing to develop annual strategic communications plans

THE STATS:
What we're looking for in our next teammate

  • Minimum 10 years experience in communications preferably in sports, media, content areas
  • Comfortable working with on-air talent, industry executives & high-profile entertainers
  • Experience managing crisis communications pertaining to retail & public events
  • In-house & agency experience preferred
  • Has managed dynamic campaigns with an agency
  • Has media connections into the sports & lifestyle categories across the country
  • An understanding of sports narratives, news & a record of generating stories
  • Ability to think creatively & conceptualize & execute press campaigns
  • Ability to work with marketing, commercial, risk & trading, data analysts, & other departments to create news
  • Experience managing people with ability to mentor
  • Excellent writer & speaker
