The Director, Environmental Health & Safety is responsible for developing, implementing & maintaining safety programs in compliance with federal & state occupational safety requirements & environmental regulations. The primary purpose of this role is to protect the safety & health of our people, our customers & the environment. The Director, Environmental Health & Safety will serve as Plateds designated safety representative, & will partner closely with team members from various guilds including operations, people, & legal to build & lead a strong culture of safety throughout our fulfillment center network. This position requires the passion & ability to demonstrate & influence a safe & healthful working environment through leadership, trust & continuous improvement initiatives. This position is also responsible for developing comprehensive risk assessments & audit procedures, & for safety data analysis to inform process improvements & training opportunities.

What Youll be Doing

  • Create, update & implement proactive safety programs for fulfillment centers with a focus on the reduction of exposures (human element & environmental), risk mitigation & injury & illness prevention
  • Compile & maintain operations safety standards & procedures documentation
  • Coordinate OSHA, EPA, stormwater standards & compliance programs including hazard communication, emergency action plans, LOTO, powered material-handling, & BBP programs
  • Conduct job hazard assessments to inform company PPE standards & programs
  • Work collaboratively to design & implement comprehensive & compliant safety & environmental training programs
  • Continuously identify & anticipate safety & health concerns & hazards by reviewing accident trends, safety violations, near misses, workers compensation & liability claims with fulfillment center leadership
  • Design systems to identify factors or business initiatives that present opportunities for improvement in safety, & design loss control programs to reduce the frequency & severity of losses
  • Design & provide ad-hoc loss reports for risk & executive leadership utilization
  • Design & oversee a safety & health audit program for fulfillment centers to ensure compliance with company standards & regulatory agencies, & implement solutions to eliminate risk & prevent injury/illness
  • Ensure accurate & timely recordkeeping & document management
  • Prepare, maintain, & submit records & reports as required by the company & regulatory agencies
  • Provide training, coaching & feedback to fulfillment center leadership & team members to promote a culture of safety throughout the network
  • Other responsibilities & duties as assigned

What You Bring to the Table

  • Bachelors degree in safety, environmental, ergonomics or related field preferred with a minimum of 5 years of previous experience in accident prevention/risk management for multi-location company
  • Possess a thorough understanding of local/regional/federal regulations
  • Safety experience in distribution centers/warehouses preferred
  • Management experience & leadership skills required with emphasis on managing by influence
  • Proven experience developing & implementing process improvements
  • Certified safety professional or equivalent certification
  • Strong working knowledge of all applicable statutes & regulations including OSHA, EPA, & stormwater management
  • Success in developing, implementing, & coordinating risk control programs & related safety initiatives
  • Proven financial & claims analysis experience
  • Data-driven with a high degree of initiative & results orientation
  • Strong team facilitation & customer focus
  • Strong analytical skills with a demonstrated problem solving ability
  • Ability to adapt well & be flexible in a fast-paced & changing environment
  • Excellent communication, training & interpersonal skills
  • Proficient computer skills & experience with G Suite/MS Office products

Physical Job Demands & Work Environment

  • Exposure to warehousing equipment hazards & varying temperatures in fulfillment centers
  • Frequent travel up to 50-75% required
  • Regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, & use hands & fingers while performing the duties of this job
