The Role:
AlphaSights is looking for an ambitious & thoughtful Legal Counsel, Immigration & Employment. You will be part of a global team, & you will have an impact on all phases of the talent lifecycle. Our Legal & Human Resources teams are dedicated to raising the standard of professionalism at AlphaSights & increasing employee satisfaction & engagement, & this role is a proactive & visible part of the team. You will work with both teams to support the needs of AlphaSights' most valuable resource: its people. A successful candidate will be excited about doing whatever it takes to enable coworkers & new hires to gain the right to work for cross-border moves, & about working on thought-provoking global labour law questions. This position will support global employees, with a focus on the ever-changing UK & US immigration & labour climates.
Core Responsibilities:
- Immigration case administration
- Administer global visa applications with assistance from our Region Heads, Legal, HR, & Recruiting teams
- Act as the primary point of contact for existing employees relocating from one office to another, & new employees with immigration needs, with the objective of creating a seamless experience for relocators. Based on our hiring targets & global relocation program, we expect over 100 immigration cases each year
- Field job candidate questions on immigration-related matters to create clarity & certainty for our next generation of talent. Keep candidates warm & interested by creating a positive relocation support experience
- Partner with external counsel to manage bespoke, complex, or executive-level visa cases
- Immigration strategy
- Work with the General Counsel, Chief Operating Officer, & head of HR to build an immigration approach that will enable AlphaSights to scale in each of our nine offices: New York, London, Hong Kong, San Francisco, Shanghai, Hamburg, Dubai, Tokyo, & Seoul
- Analyze the cost effectiveness of different immigration approaches, including submitting multiple applications for a single employee, balancing pros & cons of available visa programs, & strategically outsourcing work to external vendors
- Educate the HR & Recruiting teams on immigration policy to empower them to become points of scale for the role
- Advise on immigration policy as the EMEA recruiting team scales hires in the London office, in line with the firm's growing demand for native European languages.
- Proactively improve immigration processes to accelerate the growth of our expanding global workforce
- Employment law & policy
- Design & implement labour law-related policies & documents to align with AlphaSights talent philosophy, in collaboration with the Chief Operating Officer, General Counsel, & HR team
- Strategically review & improve employment contracts, handbooks, contractor agreements, & related documents in all AlphaSights offices
- Maintain strict confidentiality at all times to build trust in the organization & the Legal & HR functions
- Partner with global leadership to understand & resolve case-by-case personnel issues
- Mitigate employment-related risk through intelligent contracting, effective employee conversations, & confident decision-making
What We Look For:
- 3-5 years of experience working in an immigration-related Legal role
- JD from a top American law school, BA/BS/LLB from a top university in the UK or other relevant law degree
- Previous experience working as a paralegal is desirable (or, other experience working in a law firm or in-house or equivalent in your jurisdiction)
- Fluency in English (foreign language skills are also a plus)
- Some travel required
