MANUFACTURING ENGINEER (STARLINK)

We are looking for engineers for our groundbreaking constellation of Starlink satellites. This role will require taking holistic ownership of critical deliverables such as quality & on time product delivery. It will also require solving systemic production issues of integrated hardware, running root cause of failures from end to end, & working to drive process changes for continually improving product quality.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Transition designs from development to production by developing capacity models, assembly bill of materials, procedures, tooling, test procedures/equipment/schematics, PFMEAs & validating the end-to-end process through test
  • Drive process design from early product design trades through rate manufacturing
  • Front line integrated system test engineering support for production
  • Drive the recovery of discrepant hardware discovered during integrated hardware testing by debugging/dispositioning & driving root cause of failures
  • Drive higher production yield & drive upstream process improvements
  • Develop fault tree analysis to isolate & disposition discrepant hardware based on test data & results
  • Document failure modes & use data to continually improve quality
  • Drive design for manufacturability through owning design updates & validation 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline
  • 1+ years of experience in design, manufacturing, and/or production of mechanical or electrical hardware systems (internship & collegiate extracurricular engineering project experience qualifies)

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience working with fiber optic components & communication
  • Proficiency with programming & automation/scripting languages (Python, C++, SQL, Matlab)
  • Experience with automated production test systems/executives
  • Experience in a fast-paced, iterative design environment within the consumer electronics, mobile handset, medical device, aerospace, marine or automotive industries
  • Experience using oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, & soldering equipment
  • Experience with electro-mechanical & vehicle manufacturing processes & assembly
  • Experience in design and/or production of mechanical, optical or electronics hardware systems
  • Experience in optical manufacturing or a bachelors degree in optical engineering
  • Experience implementing design for manufacture & design for test
  • Experience transitioning products from design to manufacturing as part of a cross-functional team in a fast-paced iterative design environment
  • Experience modeling with 3D CAD software such as: NX/Unigraphics, Catia, Solidworks
  • Demonstrated experience designing tooling in a manufacturing environment
  • Hands-on engineer with a passion for continuous improvement & building the best hardware
  • Capable of solving complex problems with little to no supervision on schedule as an individual or as a member of an integrated team
  • Excellent communication skills, both written & verbal

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing to work extended hours and/or extended as needed
  • Some travel to outside vendors may be required (up to 10%)
