SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

We are looking for engineers for our groundbreaking constellation of Starlink satellites. This role will require taking holistic ownership of critical deliverables such as quality & on time product delivery. It will also require solving systemic production issues of integrated hardware, running root cause of failures from end to end, & working to drive process changes for continually improving product quality.

  • Transition designs from development to production by developing capacity models, assembly bill of materials, procedures, tooling, test procedures/equipment/schematics, PFMEAs & validating the end-to-end process through test
  • Drive process design from early product design trades through rate manufacturing
  • Front line integrated system test engineering support for production
  • Drive the recovery of discrepant hardware discovered during integrated hardware testing by debugging/dispositioning & driving root cause of failures
  • Drive higher production yield & drive upstream process improvements
  • Develop fault tree analysis to isolate & disposition discrepant hardware based on test data & results
  • Document failure modes & use data to continually improve quality
  • Drive design for manufacturability through owning design updates & validation

  • Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline
  • 1+ years of experience in design, manufacturing, and/or production of mechanical or electrical hardware systems (internship & collegiate extracurricular engineering project experience qualifies)

  • Experience working with fiber optic components & communication
  • Proficiency with programming & automation/scripting languages (Python, C++, SQL, Matlab)
  • Experience with automated production test systems/executives
  • Experience in a fast-paced, iterative design environment within the consumer electronics, mobile handset, medical device, aerospace, marine or automotive industries
  • Experience using oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, & soldering equipment
  • Experience with electro-mechanical & vehicle manufacturing processes & assembly
  • Experience in design and/or production of mechanical, optical or electronics hardware systems
  • Experience in optical manufacturing or a bachelors degree in optical engineering
  • Experience implementing design for manufacture & design for test
  • Experience transitioning products from design to manufacturing as part of a cross-functional team in a fast-paced iterative design environment
  • Experience modeling with 3D CAD software such as: NX/Unigraphics, Catia, Solidworks
  • Demonstrated experience designing tooling in a manufacturing environment
  • Hands-on engineer with a passion for continuous improvement & building the best hardware
  • Capable of solving complex problems with little to no supervision on schedule as an individual or as a member of an integrated team
  • Excellent communication skills, both written & verbal

  • Must be willing to work extended hours and/or extended as needed
  • Some travel to outside vendors may be required (up to 10%)

  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
