About the Team, Marketplace Strategic AccountManagement is committed to creating a superior customer experience & marketplace sellers are an instrumental part of that strategy.Walmarts Marketplace team is focused ongrowing the businessbyacquiring, onboarding, & managing new brands & sellerswith aseller-first approach.

The Strategic Account Management (SAM) Team is responsible for managing a book of business for Walmarts top Tier 1 sellers. They are responsible for hitting GMV goals by optimizing the business of existing sellers & driving growth of new strategic partners. This team will own the business front-to-back & will get exposure to all areas of the business,including:seller recruitment, onboarding, site merchandising, marketing, account management, & more. The SAM team will work collaboratively to deliver a best-in-class marketplace experience for our customers & cost-effective, sustainable businesses for our sellers.

About the Job, Strategic Business Development, Lead

Strategic Initiatives: Identifies & capitalizes on improvement opportunities for highly complex category. Manages & champions business development initiatives for the category. Provides input into short- & long- term strategic plan for the category.

Business Development & Partnerships: Provides input into marketing strategy & prospect, partner, & seller communications for a highly complex category. Manages outreach & engagement efforts for cross-category business development opportunities (i.e. sellers, retailers, & brands).

Marketplace Policies/Standards: Anticipates future needs & identifies gaps in processes & tools to improve business development & seller management for a highly complex category. Works with cross-functional teams (e.g. Retail Analytics, Category, Product, Sales Ops, Strategic Account Management) to give input on developing new tools or make changes based on team, category, seller & partner needs. Recommends & implements refinements to marketplace policy.

Research & Analysis: Develops complex analytical frameworks/models for assessing business development & outcomes of strategic initiatives (e.g., impact on ROI/customer growth, conversion rates, profitability). Recommends key analysis & metrics for highly complex category. Reviews research & analysis performed by specialists for assigned category.

Collaboration: Collaborates with other managers & cross-functional team members across Categories, Pricing, Product Development, Planning, etc. for a given category. Collaborates with external business partners & vendors.

Drives the execution of business plans & projects by identifying customer & operational needs; removing barriers & obstacles that impact performance; providing resources; identifying performance standards; measuring progress & adjusting performance accordingly; developing contingency plans; & demonstrating adaptability & supporting continuous learning.

Promotes & supports company policies, procedures, mission, values, & standards of ethics & integrity by training & providing direction to others in their use & application; ensuring compliance with them; & utilizing & supporting the Open-Door Policy.

Ensures business needs are being met by evaluating the ongoing effectiveness of current business development initiatives; consulting with business partners, managers, co-workers, or other key stakeholders; soliciting, evaluating, & applying suggestions for improving efficiency & cost- effectiveness; & participating in & supporting community outreach events.

  • Bachelors degree in business or related field or equivalent experience
