We're looking for an Inside Solutions Engineer to provide pre- & post-sales support for our rapidly-growing customer base. An Inside Solutions Engineer is responsible for the technical relationships with business customers & prospects & works internally with sales & product development to identify & communicate solutions to meet customers' business needs. This person acts as a resource for the sales & customer success teams, our front-line technical support team, & other functional departments within the company. We are looking to immediately fill this position to cover the AMER region (West, Central, & East). Candidates in San Francisco, CA or the Bay Area are preferred but remote candidates will also be considered. The primary place of work will be the GitHub office in San Francisco & the primary method of communication with customers will be via web conference, telephone & email.

Pre-Sales Responsibilities:

  • Partnering with the Corporate Sales team in our San Francisco HQ
  • Identifying customer business requirements & matching them to product features
  • Building joint customer strategies with sales, support & field services to encourage product adoption
  • Providing live demonstrations of the GitHub Enterprise platform to prospective business customers
  • Answering GitHub product questions & helping customers & prospects to take full advantage of the GitHub product
  • Answering GitHub technical questions & helping customers integrate GitHub with their existing development tools & workflows
  • Building relationships with key decision makers & serving as a customer's technical point of contact
  • Educating prospects on product implementation & usage
  • Understanding customer environments including DevOps pipelines, code deployment options & network infrastructure
  • Learning about customers' successes & challenges, sharing customer feedback within GitHub, & advocating for customer interests
  • Maintaining awareness of internal GitHub initiatives, the direction of the Source Control Management (SCM) industry, & trends in global developer collaboration tools & techniques
  • Contributing to internal & customer documentation

Post-Sales Responsibilities:

  • Acting as intermediary between sales & other technical teams to best meet customer needs
  • Communicating customer feedback & perspectives to appropriate teams to be considered in product strategy
  • Documenting technical considerations, collecting existing articles, & contributing to internal knowledgebases as a resource for other teams, customers, & partners


  • You have a BS (or higher, e.g., MS, or PhD) in Computer Science or a related technical field involving coding (e.g., physics or mathematics), or equivalent technical experience.
  • 1-3 years of experience in sales/solutions engineering, technical consulting, or system integration project management; and/or 2+ years of engineering / software development experience in a customer-focussed role (internal or external) with an aptitude for solution development & presentation
  • Customer-facing experience a plus
  • Team-oriented & possesses strong collaboration skills
  • Passionate commitment to quality & success
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • Ability to quickly solve technical & business-related challenges
  • Able to relate technical concepts to business customers of all technical backgrounds
  • Knowledge of Source Control Management (SCM) tools & workflows
  • Knowledge of Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) architecture, tools & workflows
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced & dynamic environment
  • Ability to travel on occasion
  • Must be legally authorized to travel & work in the US
  • Conversational, business & technical fluency in English (written & verbal)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in or with software development teams
  • Ability to work across different time zones
  • Ability to articulate the value of DevOps & DevSecOps
  • Knowledge of Git & GitHub workflows
  • Knowledge of workflows
  • Knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Knowledge of continuous integration, & continuous delivery tools & trends
  • Public speaking ability
