BuzzFeed News is hiring a technology reporter for its award winning tech & business desk.
The job will require you to develop & own a beat, break news, & spin up features. This is a job for someone eager to hold tech to account & to unearth stories about the unrestrained power of an industry not easily reigned in by industrial era laws.
The tech desks goal is to produce revelatory, accountability-focused journalism through rigorous reporting & vivid narratives, with an eye toward attaining real world impact. We want to change policy, shape public discourse, & expose wrongdoers. But we also want to tap into the joy, weirdness, & wonder of the internet
BuzzFeed Newss Tech & Business desk is reporter-driven. Working closely with your editors you will dig up stories no one else is telling, & report them out. You will conceive long-term & short-term story ideas with clear & compelling angles. You will leap into big news events, finding the angle on which you are the expert. We will help you rigorously bullet-proof your stories, so that they are unassailable. One benefit of working here is that we will provide you ample runway for deep investigative & enterprise work. You will steer the conversation around the issues you write about.
BuzzFeed News's Tech & Business desk is a highly ambitious one, & successful candidates will share that drive & passion. You should have at least a few years experience in journalism, with a record of working on breaking news & enterprise coverage. You should have a demonstrated ability to cultivate sources & tell stories in ways that reach the widest possible audience. You should be a persistent reporter with strong writing skills & capable of owning a narrative. You should be a willing & generous collaborator. You should be nimble when it comes to breaking news. You should enjoy fun; we have a lot of it.
