theSkimm marketing team is a small group of fast-moving & creative thinkers who nurture & grow theSkimm brand & member engagement across all platforms. The VP of Growth Marketing will be responsible for developing & executing a clearly defined marketing strategy to drive the growth of theSkimms direct-to-consumer products. Products include: paid app subscriptions, podcasts, e-commerce, events, & newsletter/media products. Our ideal candidate is motivated by hitting & exceeding aggressive Acquisition & Retention goals & has demonstrated success in owning multichannel campaigns. This role reports into the Chief Marketing Officer.


  • Accountable for direct-to-consumer growth & lifecycle marketing at the Skimm & captain of consumer revenue, acquisition, & retention
  • Concept & manage execution of growth strategies & marketing campaigns across owned & operated, paid, & earned channels, leading with owned channels first
  • Lead forecasting, attribution, & tracking efforts partnering with the Data & Engineering team to create a high performing team accountable for CPA, LTV & other key metrics
  • Oversee campaign management & large monthly budgets while hitting CAC targets
  • Create customer-focused lifecycle touchpoints to welcome, recognize, & win-back members
  • Advocate for project prioritization & drive internal awareness for marketing teams initiatives
  • Create & manage integrated campaigns that work harder as a whole & are greater than the sum of the discrete parts
  • Test into new channels to diversify sources of growth & successfully scale them
  • Structure & hire a high performing team of full-time employees & contractors
  • Partner closely with the Editorial & Content teams, Product, Advertising / Partnerships, Finance, Data & Engineering, & Brand Marketing / Community


  • 8-10 years of experience in consumer acquisition
  • Performance agency plus in-house start up experience a plus
  • Proven track record of driving data-driven customer growth
  • Experience in creating & deploying integrated, multi-channel marketing campaigns
  • Strong in ingenuity, not just relying on the playbook to do things uniquely Skimm & respecting our brand & incredible community, led by consumer insight & instinct
  • Balancing rigor of marketing analytics without analysis paralysis
  • Strong leadership experience & ability to mobilize direct & indirect reports across the organization
  • Experience in content marketing for growth including SEO & lead generation (ASO a plus)
  • Brand appreciation & customer orientation, not just a pay-per-click mindset
  • A player/coach who is flexible & wants to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with a lean team
