About the Role:
Planets Mission Control is a web-based application that empowers spacecraft operators & analysts to monitor, control, & study our growing fleet of satellites. It is flanked by a number of distributed microservices that handle spacecraft scheduling, tasking, telemetry processing, & similar operational needs. Together, these services automate much of the day-to-day operations of Planet's fleet of satellites.
Youll be a part of a team that builds, maintains, & operates these tools. Our mission is to offer a seamless interface that enables spacecraft operators, analysts, & engineers at Planet to interact effortlessly with our assets in space. We strive to minimize operational burden, & to automate all aspects of satellite operations. In this role, you will tackle & solve a broad array of engineering problems in a fast-paced environment. You will specify & implement new HTTP APIs & help improve existing ones, evaluate & choose appropriate software technologies, & design & deploy critical infrastructure, all highly impactful to the success of Planet. You will be a part of a team that will support, enable & engage with the end users to iterate on these systems.
What You Bring:

- Experience building services that leverage cloud-based infrastructure & tooling such as AWS or GCP
- Have maintained infrastructure with Ansible or similar (eg. Kubernetes, Terraform)
- Experience with relational database technologies (e.g., Postgres, MySQL, etc.)
- Experience with maintaining peer-reviewed code & continuous integration & deployment workflows & tooling like GitLab CI & Docker or similar
- Strong Linux skills
- Solid Python programming skills
- Attention to quality including automated testing, code review, & documentation
- Voracious appetite for learning & collaboration
What Makes You Stand Out:
- API design experience
- Experience working with monitoring tools like Datadog, Sentry, or equivalent
- Experience working in microservice environments
- Knowledge of aerospace concepts
