Shutterstock (NYSE: SSTK) is a growing & profitable tech company headquartered in New York City that powers visual creativity around the world. We are currently seeking a dynamic, results-oriented human resources professional to join our team reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer.

The VP, Human Resources is responsible for driving the strategic & tactical aspects of Human Resources for the organization. Particular focus will be on talent development, performance management, organizational/change management & employee relations. The role oversees a team of Human Resources Business Partners as well & Learning & Development Team.


  • Partners with leaders to align HR deliverables with business strategy
  • Bring best practice & external perspectives to strategic & operational business discussions & people management decision-making
  • Coach leaders on people-related matters
  • Support the resolution of complex people & employee relations issues
  • Provide guidance & support on the people strategy across the organization

Leadership & Management Development

  • Support leaders in building a strong leadership pipeline
  • Provide proactive & strategic guidance & support for organizational planning & development initiatives that align the human resources agenda in support of key business strategies & initiatives in client groups
  • Influence leaders to take more accountability for talent & leadership development & to model desired behaviors

Learning & Development

  • Set Shutterstocks company-wide learning & development strategy to help us make better decisions about our talent & anticipate growth needs
  • Conduct needs analyses & build foundational learning systems to develop employees, managers, & leaders
  • Drive impactful learning initiatives (e.g. upgrading onboarding experience) to invest in values & behaviors that accelerate Shutterstocks effectiveness
  • Bringing a rigorous approach, informed by results-oriented research & methods, to drive change that last
  • Empowering employees to feel ownership over their careers, & to feel connected to resources to help them learn & grow
  • Objectively assessing the impact & effectiveness of learning programs

Organizational Effectiveness & Enforcement Of Roku Culture

  • Partner with leaders in creating a culture & work environment that supports the business strategy, encourages employee engagement & inspires performance excellence
  • Diagnose opportunities to improve the performance of the organization utilizing tools to measure organization effectiveness (e.g. 360 feedback, surveys, employee metrics) as well as informal awareness of pulse of the organization
  • Consult with various business leaders on enabling team effectiveness, & partner with the Chief Human Resources Officer on implementing impactful solutions
  • Ensure actions taken in the organization are aligned to Shutterstock culture
  • Utilize data & predictive analytics to identify organizational effectiveness opportunities & to measure the impact of efforts

Performance & Rewards

  • Educate, influence, & advocate Shutterstocks performance philosophy & practices within the business to ensure fairness & consistency & inspire stronger employee & organizational performance
  • Advise leaders in dealing with employee relations issues; Partner with management teams to understand trends in employee performance issues & advise on appropriate remediation

Strategic Workforce Planning

  • Work in close partnership with the Chief Human Resources Officer & Talent Acquisition team organization to ensure overall alignment of the workforce plan & execution of plan
  • Create a talent roadmap which enables the organization to achieve its strategy
  • Consult with leaders on organization design & role clarification that will enable realization of the business strategy
  • Translate workforce needs into short & long-term development plans; work within HR & the business to ensure execution against the plans & achievement of desired outcomes
  • Plan for potential workforce scenarios based on the business long range plans


  • Minimum of 15 years relevant HR Business Partner experience
  • Significant experience working with senior leaders, leading teams & working in matrix organizations is a must
  • Ability to function well in ambiguous situations, agile & unstructured environments, recognizing when it is appropriate to introduce more structure & process without derailing the current output
  • Displays integrity & ethics in handling confidential information
  • Ability to exercise tact & diplomacy to resolve sensitive HR issues
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills
  • Coaching, influencing, problem solving, & facilitation skills are critical
  • Excellent judgment is a must
  • Demonstrated success in developing innovative people-related solutions to solve business issues
  • Experience in growing global business & positive reputation for working effectively across levels of an organization
