RF ANALYSIS ENGINEER (STARLINK)

Starlink satellites harvest solar power & serve users on the ground via RF links. The RF analysis engineer will work closely with thermal, power, structures GNC & other teams across the organization to help design a flexible, reliable system that can simulate the probability of interference events for a large portion of the worlds population. This engineer will design methods for Starlink to coordinate with other RF systems to avoid interference without significant performance impacts.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work cross-functionally with teams across the organization to design a system to assess the probability of interference across all RF links.
  • Design RF coordination methods between all relevant satellite operators.
  • Drive Starlink system-level optimization trades to provide great internet service considering mass, power, thermal, network, regulatory, reliability constraints etc.
  • Ensure that Starlink RF operations comply with all relevant regulations.
  • Define protocol for responding to a potential interference event.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or other engineering degree.
  • Experience with RF design, analysis or system engineering.
  • Software development experience in Python, C++, or other object-oriented programming language.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Solid understanding of RF fundamental engineering principals.
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts, problems, & solutions clearly.
  • Demonstrated communication skills & ability to be cordial & productive under stress.
  • Ability to react quickly to programmatic demands given the current state of analysis tools meanwhile improving/developing tools for better/quicker future analyses.
  • Experience designing or testing phased array antennas.
  • Knowledge of digital communication systems, spread spectrum, single & multi-carrier techniques & modulation types such as QPSK, APSK & QAM.
  • Experience with radio related test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, vector signal analyzers, vector signal generator, network analyzers.
  • Experience testing & troubleshooting WiFi routers, modems, etc.
  • Experience characterizing radio performance.
  • Experience testing products to meet FCC, IEC, ETSI, EU & international standards.
  • Programming experience (e.g. Python, C/C++, etc.).

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be available to work extended hours & weekends as needed.
