GitHub is seeking a Sr. Engineering Manager to join a team focused on building & extending our real-time event platform inside our Public Interfaces group. This team is responsible for our webhook delivery pipeline that sends hundreds of millions of HTTP requests every day.

In this role, you will lead a team of remote engineers building product enhancements to our real-time APIs & develop new systems that make it easier for customers to act on events that take place on GitHub. This team collaborates with other platform teams who support our databases, queues, & the GitHub network. In this role, you will be working alongside product managers, engineers, & fellow engineering managers to solve interesting & novel problems that have a real impact on how the world builds software.

Responsibilities: 

  • Foster a collaborative, empathetic, & open culture.

  • Work with individuals on your team to help them grow & progress through candid, ongoing feedback, mentoring, & career development.
  • Meet with team members on a regular basis to support day to day work.
  • Work with the product & partner teams across the organization to enable successful delivery.
  • Drive clarity with the team, fostering clear communication, understanding, & process improvements.
  • Provide technical leadership ensuring the team builds software that is architecturally consistent, of high quality, & that follows operational best practices.
  • Lead successful projects, ensuring high quality & timely delivery of features.

Qualifications: 

  • 6+ years of experience designing, developing, & shipping high-quality software at scale.
  • 2+ years of engineering people management experience.
  • Track record of working in complex & high impact services at scale and/or distributed systems.
  • Experience with hiring & building a team.
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, planning, & organization.
  • Experience managing a distributed team.

Bonus:

  • Experience with Golang
  • Experience with queueing & streaming systems like Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc
  • Experience with highly available distributed systems
