Hi, we're Oscar. We're hiring a Senior Actuarial Analyst to join our Actuarial team.

About the role

The Senior Analyst, Actuarial supports Oscars forecasting, strategy, & pricing processes for several Affordable Care Act (ACA) markets. The Senior Analyst, Actuarial reviews pricing, establishing Incurred but not Reported (IBNR) projections & risk adjustment accruals, & investigating actual performance trends to inform budget planning, pricing, & company strategies.  

You will report to the Sr. Manager, Actuarial.

If you live within commutable distance to our New York City office (in Hudson Square), our Tempe office (off the 101 at University Dr), or our Los Angeles office (in Marina Del Rey), you will be expected to come into the office at least two days each week. Otherwise, this is a remote / work-from-home role.

Pay Transparency:

The base pay for this role in the states of California, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, & Washington is: $93,600 - $122,850 per year. The base pay for this role in all other locations is: $82,240 - $110,565 per year. You are also eligible for employee benefits, participation in Oscar's unlimited vacation program & annual performance bonuses.

Responsibilities

  • Review core pricing & plan design models & provide actuarial insights that will inform strategic pricing considerations.
  • Main contributor in reviewing & submitting regulatory filings.
  • Communicate the accruals for the monthly close process related to Incurred but not Reported (IBNR) claims, Risk adjustment and/or Shared Savings deals. 
  • Investigate the core drivers of observed trends & provide meaningful information for consideration in the financial planning process.
  • Promote & shape Oscar actuarial best practices concerning automation & documentation. 
  • Maintain relationships, partnership, & lines of communication with all partners.
  • Aid in the onboarding of analysts by collaborating & integrating them into existing processes.
  • Compliance with all applicable laws & regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field.
  • Associate or Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (SOA), or on the track to become one.
  • 3+ years of experience in a related field.

Bonus Points

  • Knowledge of core health insurance concepts & experience with actuarial applications.
  • Technical with an enthusiasm to apply tech-forward methods in actuarial models.

Pay Transparency:  Final offer amounts, within the base pay set forth above, are determined by factors including your relevant skills, education, & experience.
