About the Role

We are looking for a talented & analytical Senior Decision Scientist to join the Data & Analytics team at Cockroach Labs. As a member of the data organization, you will work closely with our Product, Finance & Engineering teams to uncover insights about how customers use CockroachDB, helping to inform the Products decision-making & provide actionable insights that will guide strategic business choices.
You will also be responsible for long-running analytical initiatives marked by greater complexity & less structure that will yield substantial product enhancements.

This is a strategic, high-impact role that will help shape the future of CockroachDB products & services.

You Will

• Bring hands-on experience in creating curated data models, analytical approaches, & metrics strategies to deliver actionable insights
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams & senior management to identify goals, key business questions & objectives that can be addressed through advanced analytics or BI solutions 
• Perform high-level ad-hoc analyses, quantitative & qualitative, to guide business improvement hypotheses & drive decisions
• Own the design, development, & support of the data models & visualization dashboard, extracting data from the data warehouse (Snowflake, Big Query / Oracle data warehouse) or other sources.
• Collaborate with Data Engineers to ensure data quality, availability, & integrity for analysis.
• Advocate for business intelligence solutions or statistical techniques that will help the organization meet its goals by providing clear & concise insights to both technical & non-technical stakeholders
• Build a scalable data infrastructure that meets the needs of the business as it enters a period of rapid growth
• Establishing a robust & efficient business reporting process & building key management & workflow reports with input from management & executive leadership team
• Proactively identify trends in market & business performance, surfacing findings on a regular basis
• Be a hands-on leader that will leverage enterprise data to enable Cockroach Labs' enormous growth potential in a profitable & efficient manner.
• Some of the key analytical workstreams the Decision Science team will work on includes:
• Developing analytical frameworks to measure & oversee the performance of our product features
• Identify & prioritize valuable customer partnerships by using tailored metrics that will provide insights into the impact of partnerships on revenue, customer retention, & market expansion, helping us make data-driven decisions about partnership investments.
• Analyze how various product features contribute to overall product revenue.

The Expectations

In your first month, you will go through the Cockroach Labs onboarding process & start to build relationships with stakeholders across the company. You will understand our current data architecture & the internal & external resources we use to maintain it. You will start to prioritize the current backlog of data requests.

After 30 days, you will have a grasp on the major questions the product management team needs to answer, as well as the executive-level questions that require coordination between disparate data sets. You will update the roadmap priority & put in place key processes for building out this function. You will develop a point of view on the direction we need to take our data platform to support our product operations.

After 90 days, you will be fully integrated into the team. You will put in place the major processes for supporting the Product & the broader organization, & make incremental improvements to our data platform that demonstrably improve our ability to make decisions. You will socialize a strategy for data in the Product team & how this will support the needs of other departments in the future.

Required Qualifications

• BS, MS or Ph.D. in quantitative fields (e.g., Statistics, Math, Computer Science, Physics, Economics, Operational research)
• 5-8 years of experience in data science , decision  science or business intelligence,  building & architecting data solutions, SaaS experience is a plus
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex findings in a clear & understandable manner
• Strong problem-solving skills & the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
• 5-8`+ yrs of hands-on experience writing & optimizing advanced SQL queries, with large-scale, complex datasets
• Advanced proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, Looker) with hands-on experience in data modeling & reporting in data visualization tools such as Looker, or a similar tool
• Working proficiency in Python 
• Working knowledge of basic statistical methods & techniques for hypothesis testing, regression analysis, experimental design & machine learning

Preferred Qualifications 

• Experience working with database products
• Worked with tools such as Airflow, Presto/Hive, Spark, or any other streaming technologies to process incredible volumes of data
• Experience working in GCP/AWS/Azure cloud platform & knowledge of cloud utilities/tools
• Familiarity with sophisticated data architecture & tools (e.g. data warehouses, data pipelines)

With a proven industry track record, Nandini brings extensive expertise in data science , analytics & reporting solutions to lead her team in delivering actionable intelligence, contributing significantly to Cockroach Labs' organizational advancement
