Away is a global lifestyle brand with a mission to transform travel through products & content that inspire people to get away more. In support of our mission, we are seeking a Vice President, Engineering to join our Engineering team.

They will be developing technology solutions, working closely with a variety of stakeholders.

You will report to our CIO based in our New York City office, virtually until February 2022. This individual will be expected to be in the office

What youll do:

• Build a team of thoughtful, passionate, collaborative engineers to help scale Away's digital presence & data architecture.
• Own architectural design & engineering across all digital properties.
• Serve as a key tactical & strategic technology representative within the organization.
• Push & refine our technology, user experience, & creative practices.
• Collaborate with talented designers, product managers, & fellow engineers to build & plan new features for Away web properties, including both e-commerce & editorial experiences.
• Develop, implement, & socialize engineering best practices & standards.
• Guide teams to write robust, well-designed software that delivers great value to the business & is easy to maintain.
• Own our data architecture & data warehouse technology, continuing to extend data as a strategic asset to support our mission critical operational reporting, analytics & data science capabilities.  
• Own our integration architecture & data pipelines including building a team to architect & implement a robust, scalable integration architecture & data pipelines to improve the flow of data across our systems. 
• Establish & guide a quality assurance team to modernize & mature our systems delivery capabilities.
• Own,  scale, & mature our site reliability & cloud infrastructure engineering team & practices to ensure efficient & scalable site operations & performance
• Lead through others with a heavy focus on managing managers, building a team of engineering leaders, broadening & maturing engineering practices, & leading the overall engineering organization by example.   

Who you are:

• Experienced, with 10 years of working on consumer-facing web applications in a professional environment, ideally with strong working knowledge of best-in-class front-end architectures & back-end eCommerce platforms & familiarity with data warehouses (e.g., Redshift) & integration (e.g. Boomi) technologies. 
• A seasoned leader with experience scaling departments, running teams, & working with distributed teams.
• A clear communicator that can reduce ambiguity & promote transparency with team members & co-workers.
• Agile in your approach to software development & excited about continuous integration & zero-downtime deployments.
• An admirer of beautiful code & with a passion for refactoring & refining applications.
• Knowledgeable of AWS, Heroku, or similar IaaS or PaaS providers.
• Excited to work in a scrappy, quickly evolving startup & accelerate your career.
• Eager to create a culture of mentorship & thought leadership within Engineering.
