This role is a key member of the Growth team. Were a small, but nimble team, focused on quickly & effectively growing theSkimm audience.  We're looking for a data-driven SEO Manager to help increase web traffic. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Growth Marketing, this SEO Manager role will be highly visible within theSkimm organization & interfacing with Tech, Product, Content, & others on a daily basis. You will have the opportunity to inform & craft the SEO Strategy by providing guidance on both content & technical optimizations. This role is for someone who is looking to make an impact & help theSkimm grow its organic traffic. To be successful, you should be data-oriented, well-versed in technology & digital communications.

How youll contribute to our mission

  • Collaborate with Content to help them incorporate SEO friendly copy into their writing
  • Perform keyword research
  • Own competitive research & provide recommendations where theSkimm should compete
  • Provide guidance for updating existing content to better index in search
  • Collaborate with various internal stakeholders to educate & help support SEO initiatives internally
  • Create a framework for theSkimm to incorporate SEO best practices into its workflows
  • Work with Partnerships team to increase our backlinking presence
  • Work closely with Content, Tech & Product teams to provide guidance on site architecture & SEO best practices
  • Partner with Analytics team optimize reporting dashboard for SEO metrics

Youre ready for this! Heres a bit more about what were looking for


  • 2-5 years of hands-on SEO experience
  • Deep knowledge of Keyword Research, On-Page Optimization, Content Marketing, Backlink Acquisition, & Technical SEO
  • Experience using the following tools: Ahrefs, SEMRush, Screaming Frog, Google Analytics, Google Search Console, & Google Tag Manager
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with internal & client content, product, & development teams
  • Ability to communicate findings clearly to both technical & non-technical audiences
  • Organized, process-oriented, & high attention to detail

Nice to Haves

  • 2-3 years of managing SEM campaigns
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing, life-stage marketing, & consumer decision journeys
  • Passion for media, publishing & financial news

What about the office?

This is a full-time role based in New York, NY with flexibility for remote work.

Our office is available to use three days a week - Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday. We have a hybrid environment & ask that employees within the New York Metro area come together in person a minimum of three days per month. All other days are up to the discretion of the employees during the three days a week that the office will be open. We are continuing to closely monitor the state of COVID-19 in New York & will adjust this plan accordingly.

We will require COVID-19 vaccinations for anyone coming to our office. We are following CDC recommendations & will also require additional boosters, & will always follow CDC & NY state guidance on wearing masks in the office.
