theSkimm is hiring a full-time Director of Social Media to expand our brand presence & engage our audience across social media platforms. Reporting to our Managing Editor of News, this role is creative meets data. You will be responsible for developing social media content that fosters a deep sense of community & grows both brand engagement & revenue. You will manage a small team of social media producers & will collaborate closely with theSkimms Video, Audio, Editorial, Design, Sales, & Marketing teams.


  • Leading overall social media strategy for official brand accounts (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) for all content initiatives: news, money, well, career, branded, audio, video, marketing
  • Directing the creative & editorial operations of all organic & sponsored social media content
  • Leading pitch meetings to optimize timely news & culture content & setting the posting schedule across multiple social media channels
  • Managing a team of Social Media Producers & creating clear processes & operations for the team
  • Editing & approving all social media posts, ensuring alignment with voice, brand, & content tentpoles
  • Establishing theSkimms news presence on social - developing a clear distinction & purpose between it & our other news platforms
  • Analyzing performance data & innovating the social strategy to optimize & grow performance metrics
  • Creating the high-level social strategy for large-scale marketing & content campaigns
  • Representing our social channels in cross-departmental meetings 
  • Administering all third-party & internal social media tools & content management systems


  • 6-8 years of social media experience with a proven track record of increasing audience engagement, building brand equity, & driving revenue growth 
  • Expertise in publishing content for Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, & LinkedIn
  • Experience leading strategy & execution for a news & information, consumer, and/or emerging brand
  • Superior news judgement, research, & fact-checking expertise
  • Experience working with breaking news deadlines & ability to be on-call for breaking news over the weekend
  • Strong managerial skills & the ability to uphold an environment of learning, growth, & mentorship within a growing team
  • A player/coach mentality who can think big picture while still getting your hands dirty
  • Expertise & passion for culture, trends, & new media ventures


  • A strong understanding of theSkimms brand & voice & ability to communicate its message with consistency
  • Art direction experience in graphic design, illustration, videography, and/or photography
  • Experience executing on branded content
  • Knowledge of copyright laws for social media publishing 
  • Experience with Dash Hudson, Figma, Falcon, CrowdTangle, Instagram Insights, & Asana
