Gusto is looking for experienced engineers to join the Fintech team focused on Payments & Risk products. This team empowers the secure & safe money transmission in 100+ countries over 50+ currencies, prevents & mitigates fraud activities on the platform. Youll lead & grow a team of talented engineers & work with 15+ leading payments & risk service providers in Backend-Rails & Frontend-React architectures, & core to our asynchronous application processing, background jobs & events. Were hiring engineers to join these teams & work on customer-facing products, developing features & iterating across our platform to help define the customer financial journey at Gusto.  Our main goal in the teams is to strengthen our customers' financial wellness & to deliver a consistently great experience across all of our products.

Were looking for talented & motivated engineers to lead & grow projects from end-to-end by influencing initial feature specs, building backend APIs, writing frontend code, & overseeing ongoing improvements for deployed features. Heres what youll do day-to-day:

  • Build products that mitigate financial risk, prevent fraud & globalize faster payments transactions in a safe & secure way.
  • Own what you build end to end as you architect, implement, review, test, & iterate Gustos Fintech product suite.
  • Design highly scalable systems that drive the business growth to safely move billions of dollars.
  • Build the platform to enable fraud signal collection & anomaly detection for fraudulent activities on Gusto.
  • Drive the processor agnostic 3rd party API integration to provide new payment features & enrich payments methods, including but not limited to ACH, credit card, vendor payments, real time payments with redundancy backup.
  • Partner with product, data, finance, compliance & operations to audit financial reconciliation & debt recovery to provide the complete financial bookkeeping.

Heres what we're looking for:

  • 4+ years of technical experience.
  • Passionate about scaling the Fintech system that processes billions of dollars.
  • Independent, dedicated, & able to deliver production ready code with high autonomy & minimal guidance.
  • Enjoy working on SaaS technologies such as Ruby on Rails, Sidekiq, PostgreSQL, CI/CD & AWS etc on the cloud.
  • Well-structured, easily maintainable, well-documented code that balances beauty & pragmatism.
  • Experience developing best practices to build out & maintain scalable systems, service oriented applications, & more.
  • Payments and/or risk experience are a plus, but not required.

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $136,000/yr to $215,000/yr in Denver & most remote locations, & $170,000/yr to $240,000/yr for San Francisco & New York. Stock equity is additional. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience & expertise & may vary from the amounts listed above.
