ABOUT THE POSITION, the National Development Operations Manager plays a key role in supporting Playworks by helping to build & maintain development operations best practices for the organization in collaboration with colleagues across the organization. This role is administrative, & data driven in nature & requires accuracy, a strong understanding of development practices & Salesforce, & the ability to manage multiple projects. Candidates should be interested in data & how it supports fundraising. This is not a frontline fundraising position. 

The position also provides administrative & fundraising support to the HQ Development Department. We require discretion & proper management of sensitive donor information, & the position will at times interact with donors from a customer service perspective. This is a full-time position that reports to the National Director of Individual Giving. This position has the option to work remotely, at our HQ office in Oakland, CA, or at one of our regional offices locations throughout the US.  This position primarily supports work on the West Coast, the preferred office hours will be Pacific Time with some flexibility.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Development Operations

  • Collaborate with HQ development team & fundraising professionals in regions on establishing best practices & standards for development at Playworks.
  • Provide ongoing coordination, support, & training to regional staff responsible for development operations, including Salesforce. 
  • Manage multiple third-party online fundraising platforms & oversee profiles including but not limited to: Classy, Benevity, & other gift portals.
  • Help lead organization-wide development operations conversations. This position collaborates with other colleagues across the country to ensure adherence & creation of Playworks development operations standard practices.
  • Data entry & Salesforce maintenance for the HQ development team.

Administrative & Fundraising Support

  • Manage development records & resources including assisting in maintaining electronic records, files, & data for the HQ Development team within Google Suite. 
  • Co-manage the development intranet site to share resources & ensure best practices are available to fundraisers.
  • Process department invoices & manage third-party vendor relationships.
  • Prepare & distribute acknowledgement letters & other stewardship letters/materials.
  • Coordinate fundraising campaigns, End of Year Appeal (electronic & direct mail), Playworks Day of Giving, & events (live & virtual) such as Rock Paper Scissors Tournament & Get in the Game fundraising gala & more. Duties will include generating lists, set-up, registration, mailing out collateral materials, & other coordination efforts.

Department Collaboration & Other Responsibilities

  • Finance reconciliation: acts as a liaison between the Finance department & Playworks development teams to ensure standard practices are communicated & followed. This includes weekly review of cash receipts to ensure donations are claimed by regions.
  • Marketing Department: support development-related projects with the Marketing department & help generate & coordinate donor lists for nationwide & regional development campaigns.
  • IT/Systems: work closely with Playworks Solutions team (IT/Systems) to support new projects & maintain data quality in our systems. 
  • There will be opportunities for this position to participate in a variety of working groups & topic areas that impact areas of growth for the organization. 
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • A minimum of four years experience in a professional position, preferably in fundraising for a non-profit organization.
  • Experience & proficiency using Salesforce & generating reports.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Google Workspace (Playworks relies heavily upon Google Workspace).
  • Familiarity with is a plus.
  • Ability to present information concisely & effectively, both verbally & in writing.
  • Ability to organize & prioritize work.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.

  • This is a full-time, exempt position with an anticipated salary rage of $62,000 - $68,000 per year.
