The Risk Management team creates competitive advantage for OnDeck through excellence in risk/reward optimization while simultaneously exercising its function of control in a vigorous & diligent fashion. The Risk Management team develops strategies & models to extend credit in a profitable manner to small businesses & their owners based on a strong understanding of the behavioral & commercial drivers of its customers & on sophisticated analysis of data. As the control function of OnDeck, the Risk Management Team ensures that that the portfolio, policies, strategies, new product features or operational processes at OnDeck are consistent with the risk appetite set by the management team & the board
We are seeking a hands-on Underwriting Manager with strong analytics & project management skills. The Underwriting manager will primarily be responsible for providing leadership, support & guidance to the Underwriting team. You should be a self-starter that can operate with limited supervision. You will be responsible for strategic initiatives, special projects in Equipment Finance & Large Loans ($500K +) as well as mentoring & coaching underwriters in accordance with established underwriting policies.
As an Underwriting Manager at OnDeck, you will:
- Underwrite loans in accordance with company guidelines.
- Be able to make quick decisions & have good judgment skills & analytical skills.
- Conduct various ad-hoc analyses to support strategy & monitoring functions.
- Provide insight for process improvement across functional areas.
- Support the implementation of new strategic initiatives based on data analysis of related KPIs & monitor/track results accordingly.
- Lead projects & delegate project tasks based on junior staff members' individual strengths, skill sets & experience levels.
- Identify opportunities to enhance the Underwriting teams efficiency & develop strategies to implement them.
- Assist in the development & implementation of the departments short- & long-term goals & objectives.
Qualifications to make it happen:
- 5+Years of Commercial loan Underwriting or Small business loan underwriting: Equipment Finance, Asset Based Lending.
- 2+ Years of Project Management experience.
- Demonstrate strong underwriting skills, strong understanding of credit policy & procedures & can appropriately risk-rate loans/credits, evaluate both cash-flow & collateral-based loans/credits.
- Strong knowledge in equipment finance transactions.
- Strong analytical, writing & presentation skills.
- Flexible & adaptable to dynamic environment.
- Tableau, R/Python Knowledge
- Formal Credit Training
- Project Management expertise
