The Squarespace Finance team is looking for a Director of Payment Operations & Risk to support all Financial & Operational processes to support Squarespace Payments. You will be responsible for fraud prevention across the business & your own fraud prevention end-to-end, from identifying fraudulent behaviors or areas to improve existing fraud strategies to determining & implementing solutions. You will lead the strategy & development of fraud prevention business controls that ensure risks are identified, monitored, managed, quantified, & volatility risk measured. You will work with our Product, Engineering, Legal, Compliance, Security, other Financial units, & our external partners to develop & support a roadmap that improves fraud outcomes for the business, reduces fraud losses, & reduces friction for customers. The Payments team provides payment solutions -- including payment acquisitions, KYC, disbursements, transaction monitoring, payment method management, Accounting reconciliations, & so on -- to ensure that users have a smooth & secure payment experience.

You will report directly to the Sr. Director, Revenue Operations & will be based in our NYC office.

You'll Get To...

  • Identify opportunities to prevent fraud & develop & implement strategies to avoid fraud while balancing ease of customer experience
  • Monitor customer interactions & avoid fraudulent behaviors
  • Enforce Squarespace policies for fraudulent actors (including working with Squarespace's general counsel, external counsel & law enforcement on investigating & pursuing remedies for fraud)
  • Partner with other teams to understand fraud drivers, report on fraud trends, & identify new opportunities to enhance the quality & effectiveness of our fraud
  • Implement industry standard controls & associated procedures for across risk products such as fraud, financial crimes, operational risk, business continuity, & third-party
  • Oversee the execution of controls self-assurance & risk assessment activities (ad hoc controls review, third-party risk management (TPRM), risk & control self-assessment (RCSA)) & support independent risk & audit activities
  • Review material estimates & the processes that provide estimates used in managing the products, including fraud loss forecast, scenario tests, & fraud loss assumptions
  • All platform payment operations for banking & card products, including settlement, reconciliation, borrowing base operations & accounting
  • Ledger integrity, auditing procedures, & accounting policies
  • Strategy for automating internal FinOps alongside Product team
  • Manage relationships with banking & network partners

Responsibilities

  • Develop operational strategies to deliver world-class service under Squarespace Payments.
  • Oversee the Squarespace Payment Operations team, its operational performance, delivery of service to partners & achievement of goals.
  • Build the payment operations governance structure & the payment & business strategy
  • Oversee projects, ensuring full, accurate & timely completion; ensure adherence to all local legal & regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure operational risks associated with payment flows are managed & reduced.
  • Develop the Payments team into motivated groups by implementing operational processes, risk & best practices that work & minimize crisis situations.
  • Proactively review processes to identify inefficiencies, control weaknesses & identify opportunities for improved effectiveness.
  • Facilitate partnerships with important partners to ensure operational processes meet our needs while providing simplicity, consistency & efficiency.

Who We're Looking For

  • 10+ years' experience in risk/fraud/credit at a bank/lender
  • Experience in risk management across lending, credit card or deposit products at a significant financial institution, eCommerce merchant, or payment platform.
  • Experience with the payment technology industry, cybersecurity risk & the relation to fraud

Cash Compensation Range: $169,000 - $366,000 USD

The base salary for this position will vary based on job-related criteria including relevant skills, qualifications, experience, & location, among other factors.

In addition to the cash compensation above (which includes base salary and, where applicable for eligible roles, may include on-target commissions or overtime pay), all Squarespace employees are eligible to receive equity in the company as part of their total compensation.
