Warby Parker is looking for a Principal Counsel to join our close-knit Legal team, report to our Head of Legal, & own a variety of legal matters. In this role, youll advise the People team on a broad range of employment law & compliance issues that may arise across Warby Parkers offices & stores. Youll also assist the Head of Legal in managing litigation, enhancing our compliance program, advising business clients on regulatory matters, driving regulatory strategy, drafting & negotiating commercial contracts, & researching applicable laws & regulations. While our ideal candidate is able to serve as an in-house generalist, a strong background in labor & employment will set you up for success in this role. What youll do:
- Provide day-to-day counseling & advice to the People team across a variety of areas, such as employee relations, dispute resolution, leaves of absence & accommodations, wage & hour issues, internal investigations, & compensation & benefits
- Partner with the People & Retail teams on store openings and, if needed, closings & reductions in force
- Track legal & regulatory developments & provide proactive counsel to business partners
- Assist the Head of Legal in managing litigation, investigations, & other matters
- Assist the Legal team in enhancing Warby Parkers compliance program, including policy & training documents in the areas of healthcare compliance & commercial transactions, data privacy, HIPAA, FDA compliance, & records retention
- Counsel colleagues on a host of legal questions about contract interpretation, regulatory compliance, tariffs & trade, & more
- Review, draft, & negotiate a wide variety of contracts (e.g., technology vendors, marketing vendors, supply chain agreements)
- Partner with the Head of Legal in government affairs
- Improve internal forms
Who you are:
- An attorney with a JD, admission to a state bar, & at least 5 years of relevant in-house or top-firm experience, preferably with a labor & employment group, practice, or focus
- Equipped with extensive knowledge of labor & employment law
- Experienced with litigating employment matters before state & federal agencies/court systems
- Experienced in compliance matters, particularly in the context of overlapping state & federal regulations
- Able to draft & negotiate complex commercial agreements
- Confident in handling tasks & answering questions that youve never faced
- Capable of assessing both legal & business risks
- A skillful drafter & issue-spotter
- A clear communicator whos extremely organized & detail-oriented
- Not on the Office of Inspector Generals List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE)
Extra credit:
