New York magazines new audio division is looking for a Supervising Producer to oversee two existing shows & help develop new shows in the coming year. You should have experience managing talent as well as a production team. You should be interested in all aspects of improving a growing show, including content, coaching hosts & working with marketing & events staff to promote & grow the show. You should be calm, self motivated, & capable of solving problems creatively. And not afraid to get into the tape!
Initially the job will involve supervising Pivot & Good One. Pivot is one the networks most successful shows, hosted by Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway. Its a show for people who want original insights, critiques of power & original insights into tech & business. Lately it has also expanded into politics & culture. You will work closely with show hosts to identify the top tech, business & other relevant news stories of the week, find smart voices to bring on the show, listen to tapings, edit & oversee the final product, including quality control. You should be confident enough to make strong suggestions about hosting & format.
Good One is a long running comedy interview show hosted by New York Magazine staffer Jesse David Fox. He interviews top comedians about their craft & their lives. You will work closely with Jesse to bring the show to a new level, including editing the interviews & focusing the format of the show. You should also think creatively about how to grow the audience.
Starting in the fall New York magazine will start piloting new shows. We expect you to help run the pilot process & shape some of the new shows, & eventually take on at least one more to supervise. You should be familiar with New York magazines style & tone.
What youll do:
- Manage relationships with hosts
- Edit scripts, shape content & review final episodes
- Develop creative new segment ideas
- Manage show producers, support their professional development
- Collaborate with sales on ads, sponsored segments & the like
- Oversee editorial for live event opportunities, such as Pivots Schooled
- Collaborate with New York Magazine editors on show write-ups
- Collaborate with marketing, communications & audience development teams to grow the shows, & communicate metrics to the hosts
- Help run pilots for new shows
