Hi, we're Oscar. We're hiring a Senior Privacy Engineer to join our Security team.

About the role:

Oscar's business depends on efficient compliance with various industry & government regulations, as well as privacy & security of our customers & partners data. We believe that with our already strong controls & processes it should be possible to make engaging with various auditors & regulators easy by dedicating attention to organizing & automating our audit evidence collection, sorting, & retention. We also want to ensure that our systems are putting security, compliance & privacy front & center, making our stack secure, privacy conscious, & compliant by design.

As a member of the Privacy Engineering team, youll join our growing security organization alongside other motivated & talented security engineers. We take pride in our ability to find smart & efficient solutions & be organized about our process. You will work together with various peers in engineering & in other parts of the organization.

You will report to the Associate Director, Privacy Engineering. This is a hybrid role. You will work part of the time in the New York office and part of the time work-from-home/remote. #LI-Hybrid


  • Collect many stories of how different teams operate in their environment, while looking for ways to make the work aligned with compliance, security, & privacy requirements facilitate gathering of the evidence that will be presented to auditors.
  • Find ways to automate information gathering & remove manual dependencies as much as possible
  • You will work closely with technical & non-technical teams to recommend & verify privacy & compliance requirements & remediation
  • Build, improve, & deploy internal tooling to enhance security teams capabilities
  • Participate in calls with various regulators & auditors, while representing the company
  • Champion privacy practices across the organization & influence privacy & compliance engineering strategy


  • 6+ years of relevant work experience
  • Programming experience, particularly in big data environments (strong preference for Python or Go)
  • Experience with modern database & storage (SQL, NoSQL a plus)
  • Experience communicating technical issues or requirements & their implications to other areas of the business
  • Enjoy hands on the keyboard technical challenges as well as strategic problem solving at-scale
  • Operate effectively across teams & disciplines in highly ambiguous & rapidly changing environments
  • Energized to use your technical skills to help design automated solutions to manual processes
  • Ability to solve complex problems independently

Bonus Points:

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: privacy by design, differential privacy
  • Experience participating in code & feature reviews
  • Solid understanding of CCPA, HIPAA, & other privacy laws
  • Have a degree in a technical field (Computer Science or similar)
