Cloudflares Engineering Team builds & runs the software that handles about 10% of HTTP requests on the Internet today. We also build & run the internal tools that build & run our software. The Engineering Team is split into two groups: one handles product development & the other handles operations. Product development covers both new features & functionality & scaling our existing software to meet the challenges of a massively growing customer base. The operations team handles one of the worlds largest networks with data centers in 102 cities worldwide.What you'll do
We are looking for experienced backend engineers to join one of our teams in San Francisco. The ideal candidates will have experience working withlarge-scale distributed systemsand a track record of producing great output.
You must care deeply not only about the quality of your & the team's code, but also the scalability of the system you are building.Depending on the team you will be joining, you will be responsible for designing, building, & scaling backend services that power a variety of Cloudflare systems, from our customer & internal tools APIs to our Billing system & our TLS & Load Balancing offerings.
We work iteratively & deploy often (sometimes several times per day).Technologies we use include Go, Python, PHP, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, Kafka, Docker & more.
Our San Francisco teams include:
The team that is responsible for our API gateway, identity access & management, development & maintenance for a large portion of our customer APIs, & responsibility for our primary database that manages the core entities in our domain model.
The team has ownership of our TLS offerings (Universal SSL, Dedicated Certificates, etc), the series of pipelines that drive certificate ordering, issuance, & deployments to our edge, along with the customer UIs to manage it all.
Building & maintaining the systems & interfaces that define our product offering, the control mechanisms for giving customers access to those products, & the overall purchase experience.
The team owns our load balancing product end-to-endfrom the core functionality at our edge, to internal systems & pipelines, to the configuration & reporting UI available in our customer dashboard.
The team is responsible for all the DNS systems in Cloudflare including the Managed Authoritative DNS service & Public 126.96.36.199 Resolver.
A cross-functional team dedicated to building systems to support, enhance, & optimize the customer onboarding experience.Desirable skills & experience
Note: it is not required that you have all of these! Teams have varying needs, focuses, & use varying technologies.
- BA/BS in Computer Science or equivalent
- Minimum of 2+ years experience building backend services
- Knowledge of one or more mainstream programming languages (Go, C/C++, Java, Python, PHP)
- Working knowledge of SQL & relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL
- Experience building & operating distributed systems
- Excellent debugging & optimization skills
- Unit/integration testing experience
- Ability to own & drive projects
- Experience with message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc)
- Experience with key-value data stores (Redis, HBase, HDFS, or other)
- Familiarity with TCP/IP or DNS
- Experience with API tooling & standards (Swagger/OpenAPI, OAuth/JWT)
