We are a San Francisco-based healthcare & technology company, & are looking for an experienced engineering manager to join our growing team. Our program supports people in making lifestyle changes to improve their health, & ultimately, their lives. 

As a Director of Engineering in our B2C domains, you will lead a team of Engineering Managers & Software Engineers in shipping features that support the overall experience for our members, both through native mobile & full stack web applications.  Your teams' goals are to create both a unique member experience, that balances the needs of our customers & the business, & enable our Care Teams with best-in-class tooling allowing them to scale & the best experience for our members.  To achieve these goals, we promote high quality standards, & sustainable engineering practices (CI/CD, TDD, code reviews, sprints, pair programming, ...)

How you can make an impact:

  • Lead a team of engineers & engineering leaders to execute against the highest value opportunities for the business
  • Work with partners & stakeholders (e.g. Product, Design, Compliance, Legal, ...) to set the strategy & tactics of your teams
  • Work with the senior leadership team to anticipate & plan your teams composition, capacity, & roadmap
  • Lead prioritization of technical investments that balance the advancement of our product vision & the quality of the systems that support it
  • Provide growth opportunities for your (direct & indirect) reports & give a path forward to help them achieve their career goals

  • Are comfortable leading multiple engineering teams to build great user-facing products
  • Know how to effectively lead an organization through KPIs, OKRs, & metrics
  • Enjoy collaborating with technical & non-technical stakeholders to represent the needs of the engineering organization

  • Have excellent verbal & written communication skills

What you need for this role:

  • 4+ years of experience managing software development teams working on mobile & web products
  • 2+ years of experience managing multiple teams to achieve their goals & objectives
  • Excellent knowledge of modern software architecture patterns (SOA, microservices, serverless, API gateways)
  • Excellent communication & collaboration skills (verbal & written)
  • Excellent track record when it comes to working with Product & Design stakeholders & partners
  • Comfortable having difficult conversations with reports & other partners
  • Experience capacity planning against a teams composition & commitments
  • Have worked directly supporting mobile applications (iOS/Android) in delivering a high quality end user experience

Bonus Points:

  • Familiarity with organizing high growth engineering teams
  • Experience scaling systems
  • Expertise with software factories (CI/CD processes, Continuous Discovery, Quality dashboards, Release dashboards)
