About the Role:

The Vox Media, Production Technology team is looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to manage production systems engineering across audio & video control rooms & studios. This engineer will manage other engineers & lead integration projects & engineering operations. 

Candidates should bring broadcast engineering experience, & be ready to apply engineering best practices in a truly unique environment. From supporting podcast studios, to livestreaming control rooms, to DMX based lighting systems in our video studios, this person will ensure a wide array of systems are in good health, documented, & being improved regularly. Production technology needs & operations are unique at Vox Media & unique approaches are required to provide resources to the wide array of creators. This role will require initiative, agility, organization, creative thinking & a collaborative mindset as we enhance our engineering operations. 

This role will be based in NYC & require some travel. Senior Engineer will report to the Director of Production Technology. 

What you'll do:

  • Manage detailed documentation on installed equipment & production system infrastructure
  • Proactively manage studio technology such as video, lighting & audio infrastructure, & managing troubleshooting, enhancements, & maintenance
  • Management of Production System & Audio Engineers
  • Track support plans, contacts, & warranties for production systems
  • Work with Vendors on integration projects, or training & maintenance plans
  • Lead project management of new builds, integrations, & enhancements, coordinating with key partner groups & internal team members
  • Conceptualize & launch technical operations processes & systems to professionalize system upkeep & increase production resiliency & uptime
  • Be a first responder for any technical issues with Production Systems across our NY, DC, & SF offices
  • Update or oversee updating of system drawings for all studio infrastructure
  • Develop & maintain up to date handbooks for studio systems for use by operators
  • Train operators on studio systems, such as Audio Engineers & Technical Directors.
  • Lead audio software standards, tracking, & offerings for Vox Media Podcast Network
  • Work with Director to develop & maintain production technology roadmap in line with Vox Media key initiatives
  • Collaborate & work closely with the Post Production team, as well as partners across Corporate IT & Office Operations


What youll support:

  • Take part in strategic research & development of Vox Media Production Technology, identifying new solutions with potential for significant impact
  • Work closely with Audio Engineer on podcast studio maintenance & software deployment
  • Post Production systems involved in live content delivery & distribution.
