We're hiring a Director, Product Management for the DailySkimm.

About our team & what we'll build together

We're looking for a seasoned, self-directed, confident director of product management with a passion for news media to join theSkimm's product team, & we hope its you! You are a seasoned, self-directed, confident product leader with a passion for building email-based products & a toolbox of approaches to strategy, design, product development, organizational effectiveness, & team leadership. 

You will be responsible for product vision, strategy, delivery, & performance of the DailySkimm & our ecosystem of always on newsletters as well as their execution & delivery. You will collaborate with our content team, using research, analysis, & a deep understanding & empathy for our users, to determine how best to present, distribute & market the content that our readers rely on to understand the world. Your goal will be to discover, develop, & ship products & features that deepen our relationship with our audience & make our news content a key part of their lives. 

How you'll contribute to our mission

  • Develop & iterate on the strategy, execution & success of the DailySkimm, thinking smartly about the technology we use & the best ways to ensure we are delivering an engaging & useful experience.
  • Create roadmaps, define products & features that drive value, & oversee the day-to-day operation of a dedicated cross-functional team operating in a lean agile process.
  • Thrive on & evangelize making data driven decisions to improve the product; Have experience with multi-variant testing concepts; & demonstrate an innate ability to synthesize quantitative & qualitative feedback.
  • Prioritize the features & initiatives that will have the most impact on our business & embrace theSkimms objectives & key results; Provide regular updates to stakeholders on roadmap & KPI targets.
  • Be the voice of the user fearlessly advocating for user-focused product initiatives & improvements
  • Discover opportunities worth pursuing through analysis & rapid experimentation via product discovery & design thinking methods
  • Be up to date on best practices & industry standards for engagement, performance & optimization; Evaluate & act as the point of contact with vendors & third-party partners; Responsible for understanding how to best leverage technologies either built internally or bought externally.

You're ready for this! Here's a bit more about what we're looking for

  • 8+ years of product management experience ideally at a digital media company with a particular focus on newsletters
  • Ability to work effectively with cross functional teams in a fast paced environment with multiple stakeholders
  • Web, mobile/native app industry, & emerging platform domain experience, with a news media focus
  • User First product management approach & results oriented personality.  You have the pulse of digital user behavior
  • Real world experience with agile processes & lean methodologies
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills with the ability to organize & present thoughts clearly & concisely.
  • Team player: Strong, demonstrated ability to rally & bring varying functional teams together, & break through stalled decision making. High emotional intelligence.
  • Support the management of a small team of product specialists & technical project managers.
  • Ability to think big, while paying attention to detail; ability to balance consumer vision with business needs
  • Entrepreneurial spirit & a willingness to take risks & move into uncharted territory
  • Pushing for change when you think something can be improved as we are a culture of builders.
  • Knowledge of core email technologies is preferred. Experience having worked with Email Service Providers (ESP), Content Management Systems (CMS) & BI Tools.

What about the office?

This is a full-time role with flexibility for remote work. 

Our office is available to use three days a week - Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday. We have a hybrid environment & ask that employees within the New York Metro area come together in person a minimum of three days per month. All other days are up to the discretion of the employees during the three days a week that the office will be open. We are continuing to closely monitor the state of COVID-19 in New York & will adjust this plan accordingly.

We will require COVID-19 vaccinations for anyone coming to our office. We are following CDC recommendations & will also require additional boosters, & will always follow CDC & NY state guidance on wearing masks in the office.
