The Role

We are looking for a business savvy Data Engineer to join our growing team of analytics experts. You will be responsible for expanding & optimizing our data & data pipeline architecture, as well as optimizing data flow & collection for cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate is an experienced data pipeline builder & data wrangler who enjoys optimizing data systems & building them from the ground up. You will support our software developers, business-intelligence & data scientists on data initiatives & will ensure optimal data delivery. They must be self-directed & comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems & products. The right candidate will be excited by the prospect of optimizing or even building a new component of our companys data architecture to support our next generation of products & data initiatives. We believe in tested automation of pipelines. The member of our team should not only be agile in producing the data pipelines, but able to test those pipelines to ensure a robust & stable platform, without data leakage & with understanding of the expected outcome.

What you'll do:

  • Create & maintain optimal data pipeline architecture,
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.
  • Identify, design, & implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
  • Build & support the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, & loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL & AWS big data technologies.
  • Build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency & other key business performance metrics.
  • Work with stakeholders including the Executive, Product, Data & DevOps teams to assist with data-related technical issues & support their data infrastructure needs.
  • Keep our data separated & secure
  • Create data tools for analytics & data scientist team members which assist them in building & optimizing our product into an innovative industry leader.
  • Work with data & analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems.

Essential Criteria:

  • Advanced working SQL knowledge & experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
  • Strong programming skills in Java, Scala or Python using Spark or similar technologies.
  • Experience building & optimizing big data data pipelines, architectures & data sets.
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal & external data & processes to answer specific business questions & identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Demonstrable ability to work with cloud based data technologies.
  • Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets.
  • Experience of building processes to support data transformation & data structures.
  • A successful history of manipulating, processing & extracting value from large disconnected datasets.
  • Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, & highly scalable big data data stores.
  • Strong project management & organizational skills.
  • Experience supporting & working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
  • We are looking for a candidate with 2+ years of experience in a Data Engineer role.

 Desirable Criteria

  • Experience with Apache Spark 2.x or 3.x, ideally running within Databricks
  • Experience with AWS (what we use) or other cloud based platforms, with a desire to learn AWS.
  • Knowledge of building processes to support metadata, dependency & workload management.
  • Experience with (one or more) Hadoop, Spark, Kafka would be particularly beneficial.
