What is the key purpose of a Sr. AI Engineering Manager?

As a Sr. AI Engineering Manager in our R&D department based in Taiwan, You will lead multiple R&D teams in the development of AI driven products & services within our platforms. You are essential to our mission of building scalable & intelligent solutions that enhance our platforms performance, user experience, & business value. You will bring a strong blend of technical expertise, project management skills, & leadership qualities to support a group of talented engineers & data scientists. Additionally, you will involve working closely with cross-functional stakeholders across product, marketing, & operations to align development with overall company goals.

What skills & qualifications do I need?

For this role, it is essential that you have:

• Experience:
• 6+ years hands-on experience in software development & data science (preferably using Java and/or Python), with a minimum of 3 years in a managerial role overseeing multiple teams.
• Proven track record of managing complex, large-scale R&D projects in a tech-driven environment, preferably within an online platform or SaaS company.
• Education:
• Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Technical Knowledge:
• Strong understanding of backend architectures (e.g., microservices, distributed systems) & data science principles (e.g., data analytics, machine learning, generative AI & LLMs, big data processing).
• Familiarity with cloud platforms, data pipelines, & deployment best practices.
• Project Management Skills:
• Proficiency in Agile or similar project management methodologies, with a history of managing resources, timelines, & project risks effectively.
• Strong organizational & problem-solving abilities, with the capability to oversee multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Leadership Skills: 
• Proven experience mentoring, motivating, & developing high-performing technical teams.
• Interpersonal Skills: 
• Excellent communication & interpersonal skills to build relationships across teams & resolve conflicts effectively.
• Strategic Mindset:
• Ability to align team goals with broader business objectives & make decisions that impact long-term outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in the online platform industry, with a focus on backend & AI solutions.
• Knowledge of data privacy, security, & compliance in relation to online platforms.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to make data-driven decisions & strategic recommendations.

What will I be doing on a day-to-day basis?

As a Sr. AI Engineering Manager, you will:

• Team Leadership & Development:
• Lead & manage multiple R&D teams focused on backend development & data science, fostering a collaborative, innovative, & results-oriented work environment.
• Guide team leads & members in their professional growth, providing mentorship, constructive feedback, & development opportunities to help them achieve their potential.
• Foster an inclusive, supportive team culture. Regularly interact with team members to ensure high engagement, well-being, & productivity.
• Project & Resource Management:
• Oversee the planning, execution, & delivery of R&D projects, ensuring alignment with timelines, resources, & company objectives.
• Implement project management best practices to optimize workflows, set realistic milestones, & monitor project progress across multiple teams.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration:
• Act as a liaison between R&D & other departments to ensure seamless integration of development work with broader business goals & cross-functional initiatives.
• Collaborate with cross-functional project teams to define project requirements, share updates, & incorporate feedback, ensuring that all stakeholders are aligned.
• Technical Oversight:
• Drive the technical direction of backend systems & data science initiatives, making high-level design decisions & ensuring that solutions are robust, scalable, & aligned with best practices.
• Stay informed on industry trends & emerging technologies, integrating relevant advancements into the teams development practices where appropriate.
• Strategic Planning & Execution:
• Participate in strategic planning sessions to contribute to the companys R&D roadmap, bringing insights into current capabilities & identifying areas for innovation.
• Work with senior leadership to establish priorities, evaluate new opportunities, & ensure that team objectives support the organizations growth.
